Woman injured in U.S. 81 accident

By

A Kingfisher woman was seriously injured and U.S. 81 was temporarily shut down in both directions after a traffic accident south of Kingfisher.

Savannah Margaret Gilley, 24, was listed in stable, but critical condition with head and leg injuries when she was taken from the scene to OU Medical Center by a medical helicopter, according to a report from the Okahoma Highway Patrol.

The report said Gilley was driving north in a 2017 Dodge Journey when it struck the rear of a 2013 Daimler semi-truck and trailer about three miles south of Kingfisher just after 2:30 p.m.

The truck was driven by James Allen Jenkins, 35, of Cashion, who was not injured.

It was also northbound and ahead of Gilley’s car, but was making a left turn (west) onto East 850 Road and the report said Gilley failed to slow down before striking the rear of the truck.

Gilley was pinned inside her car, which came to a stop about 35 feet from the point of impact, for 42 minutes before members of the Okarche Fire Department were able to extricate her.

The report said Gilley was not wearing a seatbelt. Other factors causing the accident are still being investigated.

Trooper Adam Post filed the report.

Also on the scene were members of the Kingfisher Fire Department and EMS and Kingfisher County Sheriff’s Office.
