Youth Expo draws 7,000 exhibitors
While most area students were enjoying the zoo, the beach or the slopes or just relaxing at home during their spring break last week, county ag students joined more than 7,000 exhibitors at the Oklahoma Youth Expo. The 10-day event is the world’s largest junior livestock show where only the best of the best make it to the premium sale and participating youth also have the opportunity to earn college scholarships. The legislative and celebrity show, where students loan their animals to lawmakers after coaching them on the finer points of showmanship, has become an OYE fixture. House Majority Leader Mike Sanders, R-Kingfisher, teamed up with Okarche FFA member Blake Henrichs to show Blake’s heifer at the event. “It was great to work with Blake and to see so many of our youth competing in this exciting event. FFA and 4H do such a wonderful job of preparing our young people for leadership – not only in agriculture, which is so important in Oklahoma, but really in every area of life,” Sanders said. OYE results will be published as they become available. [Photo Provided]
