Lois Lu Killebrew, 90, of Tipton, mother of Susan Haynie of Kingfisher, died Thursday, March 12, 2026, at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus.

Lois Lu (Lomax) Killebrew was born on Aug. 4, 1935, in San Antonio, Texas, to Earl and Lois (Roberts) Lomax. She grew up in Sonora, Texas, where her dad, Earl Lomax, owned and operated a grocery store.

She attended college at Abilene Christian College where she majored in music and played in the college band and orchestra.

At the end of Lois’ freshman year, she met Sam Killebrew. They were engaged on Dec. 25, 1954, and were united in marriage on June 3, 1955, in Abilene, Texas.

They had two daughters, Susan Kay and Mary Jane. Mary Jane passed away at the age of 3.

Sam and Lois lived in Abilene for six years until they bought the Hubble Grocery in Tipton.

The store opened on April 1, 1961. They sold the business in 1991.

She was a member of the Tipton Church of Christ.

Lois is survived by her husband, Sam Killebrew; daughter, Susan Kay Haynie of Kingfisher; one grandson, Brandon Haynie and his wife Rebekah of Oklahoma City, and their two children, Sutton Jo and Deacon; and one granddaughter, Brooke Lemmons and her husband Jonathan of Edmond and their three children, Callan, Tatum and Maisie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Mary Jane Killebrew and son-in-law Barry Haynie.
