Raymond was born Jan. 24, 1931, in Enid to Joe and Anna Simunek and was the oldest of five children in the family. He finished school in the 10th grade so he could start working at a bakery to help support the family. He worked for several years baking bread.

Raymond spent two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He returned in 1954 and went to a polka dance where he met his wife Jenelle on her birthday.

Jenelle left for college and Raymond continued working at the bakery.

Raymond went to college and earned his master’s degree in education.

They married in 1956 and moved to Oklahoma City where Raymond was a sixth grade teacher.

They later moved to San Diego, Calif., to teach for 10 years.

Raymond changed professions and raised rabbits for medical research for 28 years. He then retired and moved to Fredericksburg, Va.

In 2004, he and Jenelle moved to Hustle, Va., where they built their log home.

Raymond is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years and his children Raynelle and Janese of Fredricksburg; grandchildren Justin (Jen) of Richmond, Va., Sydney of New York, Jaden of Richmond, Slade of Fredericksburg, Danelle (Mario) of Supply, Derek of Fredericksburg; and seven great-grandchildren, Dominic, Mario, Wyatt, Tobias, Elijah, Nellie and Damon; as well as several nieces and nephews.
