Roger Wayne Phillips, 82, Kingfisher, passed away Dec. 2, 2020, in Kingfisher.

Roger was July 13, 1938, in Miller, S.D., to Claude and Bertha Phillips, the 14th of 16 children.

He married Sandra Kay Estes on Feb. 3, 1963, in Miller, S.D.

After serving in the United States Army, Roger traveled across the country with his young family, installing telephone cable for Stake Construction, finally settling in Kingfisher in the summer of 1979.

Roger was an involved member of the Kingfisher community, serving as city commissioner and city mayor.

He operated Phillips Ditching & Excavating for many years.

He was also an active member of the Kingfisher Elks Lodge.

Most recently, you could find Roger at one of Kingfisher’s restaurants drinking a coffee in the morning and driving the streets of Kingfisher during day, keeping track of town activities.

In his younger years, Roger loved all things outdoors. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and rancher. He spent much time outdoors, often on the water or on the farm.

Roger most enjoyed spending time with his family, whether it was at his lake house or a holiday gathering. You could find Roger sitting in his chair with a drink in hand, content to relish in the activity of his family and friends.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Alice Phillips, Leonard Phillips, Ilene Scovil, Thyria Ellis, Doris Aymar, Kenneth Phillips, Gearold Phillips, Steve Phillips, Maxine Becker, Delvin Phillips and Jerry Phillips, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Roger is survived by siblings Erma Phillips-Woodruff of South Dakota, Mona Phillips-Brock of Washington, Lora Phillips-Stoudt of Washington, and brother Donald Phillips of Oregon; son Michael Phillips and wife Sharla of Guthrie, grandson Blaine Phillips and Andrea (Ainsley and Sophia), granddaughter Brooke Phillips-Williams; and John (Allah and Adam), granddaughter Blair Phillips-Coughlan and Brian (Kennady, Kaelynn, and Briar), granddaughter Lerin Thomas-Lynch and Tyler (Rorie), and grandson Hunter Thomas; son John Phillips and wife Angie of Kingfisher, granddaughter Presleigh Phillips; grandson Matthew Endres and wife Jill (Peyton and Cooper), grandson Christopher Endres and wife Blair; son Rodney Phillips of Kingfisher, granddaughter Allison Phillips; and son James Phillips and wife Margaret of Kingfisher, granddaughter Jessie Phillips-Linam and Cody, granddaughter Jordan Phillips-Waltman and Isaac.

Roger was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who will certainly be missed by many.

Services are 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, at Kingfisher First United Methodist Church. They will be officiated by Rev. Patrick McPherson and are under the direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home, El Reno.
