Tom D. Hughes, 80, a resident of Wheaton, Ill., passed away April 6, 2021.

He was born Feb. 12, 1941, in Kingfisher to Frank and Lola Hughes.

Tom was a native of the Kingfisher area where his family raised wheat and cattle on their Centennial Farm.

He was proud of his Oklahoma heritage and especially the fact that the original homestead is still owned by the family.

Tom attended Dover School and was a devoted 4-H member.

He graduated from Oklahoma State University and was determined to pursue higher levels of education.

Tom was accepted into the University of Illinois and earned his doctorate in agronomy. In school, he met his wife and they spent 52 years together.

Even though the majority of his married life was spent in Wheaton, Ill., he made yearly trips to Kingfisher.

In addition to golf, woodworking and clock building, he enjoyed traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.

Tom is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kathleen Hughes; his children Jane (Anthony) Hunter and David (Jessica) Hughes; his five grandchildren, Julia, John and A.J. Hunter, and Colin and Cameron Hughes.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A private burial will take place at Kingfisher Cemetery. Family and friends may sign a guest book at hultgrenfh.com. For more information, call Hultgren Funeral Home at 630-668-0027.
