1st question to answer: What?

What has happened to date? How did it happen? Why did it happen?

These are the questions I hope to answer over the coming weeks in this column. These questions are all relevant to Unity above Self in America, as the organization seeks to answer Gary Reid’s profound question upon Tom Coburn’s passing of “So what are we going to do about it?”

What has happened is Tom Coburn wrote a book called Smashing the DC Monopoly in which Doctor Coburn lays out the fundamental hard truths regarding our country’s situation, how it came to be, and what must be done about it. The book can be summarized as follows: It is not a matter of if, it is only a matter of when, that America will face a financial collapse if something profound is not done.

The problem is not a matter of Democrats or Republicans, it is a result of human greed. Our congress members corrupt themselves and endanger our nation by pandering to voters’ “wants” to get re-elected, rather than putting our nation’s needs first as their oath requires.

We the people must take back control of our government and we must realize we have the power to do it.

Doctor Coburn inspired the formation of Unity above Self in America by challenging me personally to lead and then bolstered the organization upon its formation 12 months later with a generous contribution.

Unity above Self in America (UaSiA) has felt its call is to advance the bi-partisan bill currently active in both houses of Congress called the “No Budget, No Pay Act.” Ua-SiA has asked Oklahoma’s congressional delegation one by one to cosponsor this simple, non-partisan legislation to move our country back towards common sense and fiscal sanity.

When UaSiA began its campaign in April of 2019 none of Oklahoma’s members were on board. One year later Oklahoma is now the only state in the nation whose entire delegation is on board for the passage of this unselfish, yet game-changing, bill.

UaSiA wishes to give the credit to God for the progress made thus far and will be asking for God’s help as the effort moves on to surrounding states in 2020.

Next week I will provide more background and answer key questions as to how we feel this progress has been made possible.

Writing for our common good on behalf of Unity above Self in America,

R. Brian Walter
