Another biased debate moderator
View From Behind the Plow: (a Column Of Opinion By Gary Reid, Publisher Emeritus)
We watched the presidential debate Tuesday night. It was something we don’t normally do because we expect a big media left-wing moderator to be throwing the debate in favor of the Democrat candidate.
We thought it might be different Tuesday with Chris Wallace as moderator. We have thought in the past that Wallace was able to put aside his biases in the interest of fairness.
Wrong.
Wallace became Joe Biden’s debate partner, coaching him when he got confused, explaining Biden’s position when he couldn’t explain it himself, and shutting down the president when he got on a subject unfavorable to Biden.
One example came when the debate turned to the Green New Deal, a left-wing fantasy that would cost American taxpayers billions, probably trillions, of dollars if enacted.
It is embraced by the Democratic National Committee (as recommended by by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortes and backed by Socialist senator Bernie Sanders).
First Biden said he supported it and then later said he opposed some parts. Before he could say which parts he supported, Wallace changed the subject.
Biden obviously was coached to get personal and ugly, calling the president a liar twice that we can recall, obviously an effort to anger the president.
School yard taunts are out of place in such events.
One compelling issue came when Biden responded to Democrats’ calling for packing the Supreme Court.
Biden attempted to sidestep the issue and the president asked if that was because Biden wanted to put radical leftwing justices on the court.
Biden responded “Will you shut up man?”
Wallace quickly came to Biden’s defense, saying the discussion on court-packing had ended.
Earlier Biden had referred to the president’s nomination of Amy Coney Barrett as an issue that should be decided in the presidential election as if Trump is not authorized under the constitution to make Supreme Court nominations – at least in the last year of his first term.
In essence, he was implying that Trump was not serving the fourth year of his four-year term.
We recall Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the late justice that Barrett has been picked to succeed, commenting on this subject, commenting that presidents are elected to fouryear terms, indicating that Trump has a perfect right to name her successor.
Numerous observers identified Wallace as the loser in the debate.
It was a foregone conclusion that the big media would declare Biden as the debate winner.
One thing seems assured. Wallace will continue to be in good standing for Swamp Creature social invitations.
A Few More Questions
Being a simple kind of guy, I have a lot of questions.
For instance, when did it become a rule you couldn’t be a Christian and a Supreme Court Justice?
That seems to be the prervailing theme as the left attempts to tear down President Trump’s nominee to replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg with a practicing Christian, Amy Barrett, who even anti-Trump radicals admit is eminently qualified for the post.
Another question that troubles us is this: When did it become okay for our ruling elitists to be thoroughly corrupt?
We refer to the multi-million actions of Bill and Hillary Clinton whose foundation became a cash cow while Hillary was secretary of state under Obama, and, more recently, the high-stakes games the Biden family has been playing in Russia, Ukraine and China.
Columnist Robert Knight cites a new Senate report (87 pages) exposing millions made by Hunter Biden in Ukraine at the natural gas company, Burisma Holdings, while his dad, Joe was vice-president under Obama.
The report also touches on Hunter’s Russia connections, including a $3.5 million payment from the wife of a former Moscow mayor embroiled in a scandal.
A section on China details a web of lucrative ties between Hunter Biden’s firms and companies controlled by the Chinese Communist Party. It also documents many trips he took to China with Secret Service protection and to dozens of other countries.
The document reveals a 10-year record of corruption with possibly actionable criminality and a coverup at the highest levels.
Here are just a few findings in the report:
Hunter Biden and his business partner Devon Archer joined the board of Burisma Holdings in 2014. Hunter was paid $50,000 a month, although he had no expertise in the field. He and Archer, who had met with Vice President Biden at the White House just before Mr. Biden went to Ukraine on a diplomatic mission, eventually made millions.
Hunter was on Burisma’s board when firm owner Mykola Zlochevsky allegedly paid a $7 million bribe to “shut” a corruption case against him. In 2016, Ukraine prosecutor Victor Shokin had another active investigation into Burisma and Zlochevsky.
“According to news reports, then-Vice President Biden ‘threatened to withhold $1 billion in United States loan guarantees if Ukraine’s leaders did not dismiss [Shocking].’ After that threat, Ukraine’s Parliament fired Shokin.
Knight referred to a video every American deserves to see, in which Biden says, “you’re not getting the billion (a loan guarantee from the U.S.)… “I looked at them and said: I’m leaving in six hours. If the prosecutor (looking into Burisma) is not fired, you’re not getting the money. Well, son of a (word deleted). (Laughter.) He got fired.”
Another question:
If such as that had involved a Republican, wouldn’t it have been a prominent story in every large newspaper, magazine, TV network and even on the Associated Press wire?
I dunno. I didn’t see it anywhere.
A few years back, such callous behavior might have ignited a real riot – certainly at the polls.
