Brian Walter finds a good listener in Senator Warnock

By

( Ed. Note: Kingfisher businessman Brian Walter continues his efforts to get a “no budget, no pay” measure passed by Congress. He wrote about his latest efforts in a letter to supporters last week. It follows:) Dear Supporters, Last weekend, I went to Atlanta to attend church at Ebeneezer Baptist Church in Atlanta’s historic lower 4th Ward, wondering if it was simply too much to ask of God to bless this effort just three days following our very blessed meeting with Oklahoma AG Gentner Drummond. But we serve a big God, and once again He came through in a big way.

I’m fully convicted that only by staying bi-partisan and leaning into God’s Word does our effort (or any effort) have any real chance. For this reason, it made perfect sense to go see Pastor Raphael Warnock.

The Meet the Press interview of Senators Warnock and Lankford just before Christmas focused on our nation’s political division and how Christian faith impacts that division. Seeing that discussion led me to go see him.

James Lankford is a Baptist pastor. Raphael Warnock is a Baptist pastor. Martin Luther King Jr. was a Baptist pastor. Jesus spoke of loving your enemies. Tom Coburn spoke of loving your enemies. Lankford, and even more so Warnock, talked of loving your political enemies.

James Lankford occupies Coburn‘s former Senate seat, and is by far the Senator we are closest to. Also, I often look to Martin Luther King Jr. for inspiration. Hopefully, you’re getting a feeling for my belief that God is tying all this together in His time and in His way.

I went to Atlanta to attend church with the hope of gaining insight into who Raphael Warnock is as a man, and maybe, just maybe, getting to meet him and deliver the message God has put on my heart for him.

The church service was awesome. The people were incredibly welcoming I strongly urge you if you are ever in Atlanta, Ga., on a Sunday to make a point to attend at Ebeneezer Baptist Church.

It’s a very historic venue. It is a very lovely church, full of lovely souls. They are ready to love you as much or more as you are willing to love them. God is good!

At the end of the service there was an altar call. A number of new believers came forward. Then, a second altar call came for people who wanted to recommit their life to Christ.

I felt there would be no better time to recommit my life to Jesus than that morning. I answered the call and went forward.

I knew it was going to be tricky to meet the pastor himself. And it was.

I have no doubt that there were many people present who wanted to spend time with Pastor Warnock after the service. I was the only one who got such an opportunity.

The simple fact is that if I had not answered that call to recommit my life to Christ, it would not have happened. God is good!

This is a very short account, minus the details for brevity.

If anybody desires to hear the full details, I’m more than happy to share. Please give me a call.

The message I felt called to give Pastor Warnock is that I believe God is calling him and James Lankford to a special role to use their faith in a strong and courageous way to begin to combat the political division that is ruining our nation.

He is a man very convicted over the fact that our political division is, in fact, ruining our nation. I looked him right in the eye at point blank range. He listened intently.

Monday morning before 7 a.m., his legislative director had already reached out to me via email to schedule a follow up to continue our conversation. God is good!

It’s merely a start, but it is a start!

Thank you for your prayers and support.

For our common good,

R. Brian Walter Matthew 20v26-28.
