Christianity under attack in America
Christians have been under attack throughout most of the world since the time of Jesus.
The United States of America, which was founded on Judeo-Christian precepts, wasn’t the only western nation that supported Christianity and defended the right of free people to worship as they believed but its constitution that emphatically defended people’s freedom of religion attracted millions to our shores.
America’s Constitutionally-guaranteed Freedom of Religion has been under constant attack for several years as those with leftist beliefs have gained power in government, education and the mass media.
A group has even been formed called the Freedom From Religion Foundation. Its leader is a fellow named Ron Reagan Jr. the son of former President Ronald W. Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan.
Ron Jr. is an atheist and denounces both his father’s politics and faith.
This group, along with others, write threatening letters to public institutions attempting to intimidate them from allowing constitutionally-allowed religious speech to be heard.
Former U.S. Sen. and Attorney General Jeff Sessions reports he has been targeted by the FFRF for making what the organization described as disparaging and inaccurate remarks about the group.
Ron Junior was featured in a commercial for the FFRF that played during a Democratic debate.
“Hi, I’m Ron Reagan, an unabashed atheist, and I’m alarmed by the intrusions of religion into our secular government,” Reagan says in the opening of the advertisement. “That’s why I’m asking you to support the Freedom From Religion Foundation, the nation’s largest and most effective association of atheists and agnostics working to keep state and church separate, just like our Founding Fathers intended. Please support the Freedom From Religion Foundation.”
He concludes the advertisement by saying, “Ron Reagan. Lifelong atheist. Not afraid of burning in hell.”
The Wisconsin-based FFRF has frequently attacked people of faith in Alabama, most recently a school in Tallapoosa County for allowing baptisms before football practice.
Sessions is a candidate for the Senate seat currently held by Doug Jones (D). Sessions previously served in the Senate from 1997 to 2017.
Constitutional scholars long ago debunked the idea that the Founding Fathers intended to isolate religion from public life. Their goal was to avoid establishing an official government church ... and there isn’t one.
America’s tolerance has played into the hands of those who hate Christianity and its effect on our culture.
An article in Time magazine provided a list of incidents detailing the growth of anti-Christianity in America: the teacher in New Jersey suspended for giving a student a Bible; the football coach in Washington placed on leave for saying a prayer on the field at the end of a game; the fire chief in Atlanta fired for self-publishing a book defending Christian moral teaching; the Marine court-martialed for posting a Bible verse above her desk; and other examples of the new intolerance. Anti-Christian activists hurl smears like “bigot” and “hater” at Americans who hold traditional beliefs about marriage and accuse anti-abortion Christians of waging a supposed “war on women.”
Some Christian institutions face pressure to conform to secularist ideology— or else. Flagship evangelical schools like Gordon College in Massachusetts and Kings College in New York have had their accreditation questioned. Some secularists argue that Christian schools don’t deserve accreditation, period. Activists have targeted home-schooling as being a Christian thing; atheist Richard Dawkins and others have even called it tantamount to child abuse. Student groups like InterVarsity have been kicked off campuses. Christian charities, including adoption agencies, Catholic hospitals and crisis pregnancy centers have become objects of attack.
The attacks on extremely qualified and recently narrowly-confirmed Supreme Court Justice Amy C. Barrett provides another example of anti-Christian hatred which has snaked its way into government.
Among the “charges” opponents threw at Barrett was her faith as a practicing Christian.
Fortunately, this fine lady was seated on the court and will make a difference with constitutional rulings that will inform and affect the culture.
Don’t expect attacks on Christianity to end with the end of the last election, however.
The left hates Christianity because it emphasizes the importance of common people as the children of God and it emphasizes strong family structure as the way to raise (rear, if you prefer) children and Christianity destroys the authority of a central government in dictating citizens’ every action.
Creating chaos is a means of destroying citizens’ confidence in their country. Also, chaos creates a great opportunity for the goons hired to create the unrest to destroy, injure and steal.
