Couch potatoes rule

Some friends my age can’t believe I don’t watch TV in a recliner, and that I don’t play along with the Wheel of Fortune game show. I’ve never gotten into that show and I prefer the divan instead of recliner. Then I joined my peers in the lifestyle of the semi-retired. I set my own hours. I stay up late and watch old game shows. I get up late and do whatever I want. I eat lunch late in the afternoon and watch TV. I even got hooked on Jeopardy. I’m more likely to answer Family Feud or America Says questions, but am also able to sometimes answer a Jeopardy question or two. Alex Trebek is also a plus. He rarely misses a beat. And he has great hair! It’s his calm voice that makes me feel comfortable enough to shout out my answers. House cats Pretty Baby and Tuxedo reassure me with their meows, and we were all excited to watch the recent nighttime Jeopardy Greatest of All Time shows. I sat up straight on the divan for those performances, and got a few right mainly due to my maturity. Especially the 1960s-70s questions such as a self-help book with the word OK in it. Had to be “I’m OK You’re OK,” and who wouldn’t recognize an old photo of Donald Sutherland who was in MASH? I also happened to see Christopher Plummer in the second musical I’d ever seen: “The Sound of Music.” I saw it in the ‘60s at an OKC theater on N.W. 23rd St. Another question that was a cinch for me, and some Oklahomans: Which university did Republican Congressman and Pro Football Hall of Famer Steve Largent attend? “OU!” I shouted before contestant Brad Rutter said: “Oklahoma!” Wrong! Ken Jennings guessed: “Oklahoma State.” Wrong! James Holzhauer didn’t buzz in. “Tulsa University,” said Alex Trebek. I knew that! Congressman Largent had been on congressional panels during newspaper conventions. He was always up first on the panel because he was from District 1 (Tulsa). Now I’m back to Family Feud questions: Name something that moves slow. My answers: my brain, and me when I get up from the divan. I won!
