Going along to get along not good policy
The Rev. Ed Young of the Second Baptist Church in Houston recalled some advice by former Speaker Sam Rayburn in his televised sermon Sunday.
Young recalled that Rayburn advised a Washington newcomer concerned about making a place for himself in the Washington environment that “you have to go along to get along.”
Young didn’t think that was very good advice for today’s environment.
In fact, he indicated it was time for people (in Washington and elsewhere) to think for themselves and make decisions that would preserve a free nation based on Judeo-Christian precepts.
Citizens can see today where the herd mentality suggested by Rayburn leads.

Staggering national debt, out-of-control hoodlums threatening to burn down Washington (after already setting fire to numerous cities) if President Trump dares to follow his constitutionally-ordained right to name a Supreme Court justice before the Nov. 3 election, threats to burn down the republic and destroy the constitution, threats to stack the Supreme Court, vile threats against anyone who opposes them, threats not to allow President Trump a second term even if he wins the election, obscene utterances on the airways in music and speech, demands to defund police departments, killing innocent people for expressing thoughts they don’t agree with and on and on.
Walter E. Williams, economics professor at George Mason University in Virginia, discussed the damage to society that comes when language becomes irregular and depraved in a column appearing on page 4 of Wednesday’s edition.
In the column headlined, “Language and Thought,” Williams cited 17th Century intellectual John Milton who predicted when language in common use in any country becomes irregular and depraved, it is followed by their ruin and degradation.
Then he added:
Language Reflects Decadence
“Gore Vidal, his 20th-century intellectual successor, elaborated saying: ‘As societies grow decadent, the language grows decadent, too. Words are used to disguise, not to illuminate.’ Sloppy language permits people to get away with speaking and doing all manner of destructive nonsense without being challenged.”
Williams used the space to destroy the legitimacy of terms such as “white privilege,” which are bounced about so glibly to justify stealing and destroying property of others – and not just whites.
An aside: Perhaps the stupidest remark came from a Black Lives Matter (BLM) leader who said that it didn’t cost anything for those companies that rioters robbed and damaged because insurance covered it. No business could afford that much insurance. The individuals making those remarks obviously have never operated a business.
“Going along” with such nonsense is asking for the end of a constitutional, civil America – the freest and most successful nation ever created.
It doesn’t take a genius to see that people going along with the destruction being wreaked on the nation (and that includes some political leaders) are determined to destroy the United States.
Western States Secession?
The states of California, Oregon and Washington have suggested they will secede from the U.S. if Trump is re-elected. An interesting sidelight to that foolishness is that large rural tracts in the western states have begun looking at joining states immediately to the east of them.
There is no doubt haters have driven a wedge into the U.S.
A united U.S. is vital to a peaceful world.
We can imagine that Chinese officials are looking forward with relish to the possibility of a divided U.S. as they implement a plan for world domination.
President Trump got in the way of their long-range plans when he disrupted their bird’s nest on the ground situation by requiring a fair trade plan between the two countries.
China has grown fat by taking advantage of unfair trade practices, using cheap (virtually slave) labor to lure manufacturing to its country.
Already the No.2 economic power in the world, China has a goal of taking over the No. 1 spot, including calling the shots for global activity on all fronts, including military superiority.
‘Interesting Times Have Arrived’
Hopefully, the unrest will end when President Trump is re-elected in a landslide.
He definitely hasn’t been a go-along to get-along guy, driving the leftist elite into hysteria.
A Joe Biden presidency would raise many points of concern, considering the many ties his son, Hunter, already has to the Asian nation, thanks to dad’s position as point man with China during the Obama years.
The old curse, “May you live interesting times,” comes to mind.
They’ve arrived.
