Good neighbors are to be cherished
We have mentioned before that we have great neighbors.
We were reminded of this again after the October ice storm that tore up so many trees.
The morning after the ice storm, we were out in the front yard trying to clean up the downed tree limbs using a chain saw.
We noticed that Harland and Bethel Hackett, who live across the street, had a crew working on their property and figured they had hired someone to do the cleanup.
After, they finished the Hackett yard, Harland walked across the street and asked if I “would mind” if he and his team, which included family members, helped clean up around our house.
(Harland may have noticed I was staggering around a little worse than usual.)
Of course, I didn’t mind — one bit.
The whole bunch then came across the street and went to work. In a couple of hours, they completed the cleanup that would have kept me busy for months.
Harland, also a senior citizen, commented wryly the job would have probably taken us until July to finish.
Many will remember Harland and Bethel as the longtime owners of Kingfisher Western Wear. We still miss their store.
Those who jumped in to help us included the Hacketts’ daughter and son-in-law, Kris and Becky Gibson, Conner and Jessica (their granddaughter) Pringnitz, Jake Gibson, their grandson and his girlfriend, Mikayla Earnest, grandson Greg Townsend and his girlfriend, Allie Reed, as well as Harland.
Bethel did her part by taking care of their great-granddaughter, Brylinn Pringnitz, so mama Jessica Pringnitz could work. Brylinn will be one year old on Jan. 5.
