Dear Gary, One thing that I am very passionate about is ensuring that Oklahoma remains one state.

As you probably know, in one of the most “whiteguilt” decisions of 2020, the United States Supreme Court decided that 43% of Oklahoma was still “Indian Territory,” despite the Oklahoma Enabling Act, where Teddy Roosevelt combined Indian Territory and Oklahoma together in order for Oklahoma to be entered into the union as a state.

Although the court promised this was “only” about major crimes, Mc-Girt has now expanded to include:

•Native Americans not having to follow traffic laws in Tulsa (Hooper v. City of Tulsa)

•Native Americans arguing in the Oklahoma Supreme Court about not paying taxes (Stroble v. OTC)

•Oklahoma revenue compacts expanding from 7% to 43% of the state (OCPA v. Treat et al.)

•Out-of-state oil companies warning their investors it is risky to lease land in eastern Oklahoma

•The Oklahoma Department of Public Safety reporting cartels using unregistered tribal license plates to commit organized crime The problems with the McGirt ruling–which said nearly half of Oklahoma is no longer the state of Oklahoma–are not with race or traditional history, but with fairness, certainty, and unity.

We are not unified as a people when we split the state in two. There is no fairness if some people must follow traffic laws and pay taxes and others do not–solely based on race.

It is risky to invest in Oklahoma when there is no certainty about who the land or resources will belong to or whose laws are to be followed.

Very few people in positions of power are willing to speak out about this, but OCPA will continue to be the group that shines a light on the problems that arise, give recommendations and assistance to government officials, and bring cases to courts to challenge the legality of actions.
