Letter to the editor: ‘No’ on AT&T tower appreciated

By

Regarding the AT&T tower request:

Thank goodness we have city commissioners and a city manager who will stand up to AT&T and say, “No.”

I don’t have a relative who flies, but I still want those using the local airport to be as safe as possible.

I looked at the county fairgrounds today. AT&T would, “Fence a large area for safety.”

Yes, they would take most of the open grass area. It would be a big eyesore and a loss of use of our own county fairgrounds.

They also said a “preferred location” would be at the corner of Main and Broadway.

That would be a “fine” addition to our downtown area!

AT&T sent multiple representatives to the meeting. That didn’t work.

Kyle Mecklenburg had it right - it’s not, “The best decision for our city.”

That is the main consideration - what’s best for our city - not what’s best for AT&T So, the “FAA and Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission have signed off on that” and “All we can do is defer to the experts.”

No, they can go back to more planning and find other locations that won’t put eyesores in our city. It’s really all about profit for AT&T in the end.

Of course, to get the profits, they need to keep customers happy, but that is not a priority for the City of Kingfisher.

With all the open county around, there will have to be other possibilities for AT&T
