Next Question: How?
Unity above Self in America (a 501c3) seeks to answer Gary Reid’s question “So what are we going to do about it?”, which he wrote in lamenting Tom Coburn’s passing.
Today I will address “how” has the progress described here last week been achieved. The answer is both simple and profound.
The simple answer is that UaSiA simply asked congress members to take the step of officially cosponsoring the “No Budget, No Pay” act to help move our country towards fiscal sanity and common sense as Dr. Coburn fought so bravely for, but remains undone.
The old expression “you ask the right question and you will get the right answer” still applies. We asked a righteous, non-partisan question that asks Congress to share sacrifice and face the truth which is our nation’s financial dysfunction. In return we got truthful, righteous, sacrificial commitment for a non-partisan plan to do precisely that.
It wasn’t easy, at first our calls went unanswered, but we were persistent. We used old-fashioned determination and took every opportunity to confront members of Congress at Townhall meetings. We also used the power of the press. That’s right, we used *NEWSPAPERS*! Not internet, not Twitter, we used good old-fashioned newspapers. Print media played a huge role in the founding of our nation and it is playing a huge role in the retaking of the nation, which Dr. Coburn prescribed in his book as the only way to address this enormous problem. Our full-page newspaper ads get the attention of reluctant congress members who do not like being challenged for failing to step up for our nation.
The profound answer to “how” we have made this progress as Dr. Coburn pointed out is that the problem is rooted in human greed. The Bible talks a lot about human greed.
An early friend and advisor to this effort pointed out the Bible’s instruction that “it’s not our battle, it’s God’s battle” (2 Chronicles 20:15) and that “we are called to be men of courage.” (1 Corinthians 16:13) Once we realized these two things it became clear that we were not to concern ourselves with the enormity of the task – we were simply to move forward in a common sense manner based on the Biblical principles of truth, righteousness and sacrifice.
Ever since this realization patriotic, faith-inspired people have come forward with generous donations and God has cleared the way for meaningful progress.
This answers how the progress was made.
Next week, I will attempt to address the “why” aspect of the UaSiA effort.
Writing for our common good on behalf of Unity above Self in America.
