New York Times works at digging its own grave
The New York Times continues to assault its own reputation while continuing its crazy assault on Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
How crazy does a newspaper have to act before it is proclaimed insane and institutionalized?
In a culture in which the end justifies the means, the left, which the New York Times symbolizes and promotes, is determined to destroy the nation’s constitutional government.
To do that it has to undo the 2016 election, remove Donald Trump as president and remove the two justices he has appointed to the Supreme Court.
The New York Times published an unproven allegation about Justice Kavanaugh in a recent Sunday edition, a story it later had to “correct” because it was wrong and so thinly sourced that even the Washington Post, another far left publication, declined to run it.
Times reporters Robin Pogrebin and Kate Kelly left out exculpatory evidence contained in a book they wrote that alleged that Kavanaugh exposed himself in a “drunken dorm party” while in college and was involved in other acts that a family newspaper cannot detail.
Pogrebin and Kelly failed to inform readers in the original article that friends of the alleged victim said she has no recollection of the incident in question. That crucial fact was included in Pogrebin and Kelly’s new book, “The Education of Brett Kavanaugh: An Investigation,” which was the source of the material in their article.
The Times published a correction to the misleading article late Sunday night after the original piece appeared.
The source for the drunken party story was one Max Stier, an attorney in Washington, D.C.. (More about him later.)
The Post “last year confirmed that two intermediaries” had passed along Stier’s claim “to lawmakers and the FBI” but “did not publish a story in part because the intermediaries declined to identify the alleged witness [Stier] and because the woman who was said to be involved declined to comment,” the Post’s article said.
Neither the Times nor Pogrebin and Kelly have explained why the article omitted the fact that the alleged victim reportedly has no recollection of the alleged incident. Pogrebin and Kelly didn’t return emails inquiring about the omission, The Daily Caller reported.
The Federalist’s Mollie Hemingway noted that Stier and Kavanaugh have a “long and contentious history,” stemming from Stier’s defense of former President Bill Clinton in the 1990s while Kavanaugh served on independent counsel Ken Starr’s team in the Whitewater investigation.
National Review’s John McCormack described the Times’ omission as one of the “worst cases of journalistic malpractice that I can recall.” The Times’ article was more of a “dud” than a “bombshell,” McCormack added in a column, noting that “the authors provide no indication there is any first-hand witness to corroborate the allegation,” according to a column by Peter Hasson in The Daily Caller.
One possible reason the Times ran the column might be to provoke a libel suit, which would allow presentation in court of additional allegations against Kavanaugh principally and President Trump exponentially (keeping the cauldron boiling).
It appears The New York Times has given up on protecting its reputation as a legitimate news source.
It once presented itself as the source for “all the news that’s fit to print.”
It may need to change its masthead to read “all the rumors unfit to print.”
More Crazy Politics
The continuing assault on Justice Kavanaugh is not the only stupidity on the national political scene.
Beto O’Rourke of El Paso, Texas, who ran against Sen. Ted Cruz and lost for a U.S. Senate seat, is now running to gain the Democrat nomination for president.
One of his key points is to turn millions of gun owners into felons.
He would have to put the left in control of the White House and Senate to accomplish this, of course, but his battle cry is “(expletive deleted) yes, we’re coming after your AR-15s.”
Maybe he forgot his predecessor Bill Clinton and looney AG Janet Reno, attempted to hurry this process along at Waco, sending a bunch of ATF agents to take the guns of a bunch of people who were minding their own business.
Result: four dead ATF agents and some 70 civilians, including dozens of children the feds burned alive.
That didn’t prove the public relations victory they expected and may have pushed back the gun-free oasis the left anticipated. You know the one where the deplorables are helpless to stop the drive to turn all decision making over to our betters.
Hope obviously springs eternal in the minds of the delusional left.
The leftists probably don’t realize that Americans are smart enough to see a couple of examples of their goal – Cuba and Venezuela – right off their doorsteps.
Urban libs might even have dreams of unleashing cops and maybe even the military against the gun-owning citizenry before they have the authority to pass the laws they want and pick the justices they need to back up their play.
That might just kick off a rebellion.
But that might be part of the game plan, too. Remember, leftists are not in their right mind.
