Is this Left’s reason for hating president?

By
(A column of opinion by Gary Reid, Publisher Emeritus)

VIEW from behind the plow

It is puzzling that the Northeast and Left Coast elites have been so vehement in their hatred for duly-elected President Trump. Could it be that they feel that one they considered their own (New Yorker President Donald Trump) has betrayed them, jumping from the accepted big government religion to a conservative affi liation? The American left is determined that all its adherents toe the line on its precepts. The First Amendment doesn’t fit into their catechism.

Left Despises First Amendment

If one doesn’t accept every jot and tittle of the left’s belief, that person is to be vilified in the best tradition of community organizer Saul Alinsky (hero of both Hillary Clinton and former President Obama). The left-wing loonies in the House have been obsessed to destroy the Trump presidency from its fi rst day. (How dare he spoil their playhouse! Doesn’t he and other deplorables (to use Hillary Clinton’s term) understand that government was created for the insiders’ wealth building and aggrandizement?) Normal folks don’t see it that way. They believe government was designed for national defense and doing only those things for citizens they can’t do for themselves – not controlling the entire economy and regulating every action of American citizens. It seems to drive our betters crazy that the president doesn’t care that they’re mad. In fact, their rage has served to boost the president’s fund-raising efforts for a run at a second term.

Presidents’ Plain Talk Brought Victory

President Trump’s plain talk may well explain the large turnout of the silent majority in the last election. Normal people had become sickened at the direction the nation was going. This does not mean that President Trump is a shoo-in for re-election. The left will pull out all the stops, including counting ballots of illegal aliens – and even grave stones – to defeat this president. Hillary Clinton, who lost to President Trump in 2016, says the Trump presidency is illegitimate and she would defeat him if they faced each other again (“hint, hint, I’m available, if you want me”). Meanwhile President Trump goes brashly on his way, refusing to let certain House leaders know that his administration was going to take out the ISIS leader, including Speaker Pelosi because the House leaks like a sieve and could have put the special forces members in greater danger. Then he went to Chicago to a national convention of peace officers and called out the Chicago police chief, who refused to attend his speech, for allowing Chicago to become a “more dangerous place than Afghanistan,” citing Chicago murder statistics to back up his comment. While President Trump remains strong with his base, it will take a concentrated effort by supporters to allow him the second term needed to drain the Washington swamp, which outsiders see the same way they view the Mafi a.

Leftist Media Determined to Oust President

After all, the entire major media is at the left’s beck and call to attempt to destroy the Trump presidency. They still believe if they tell the same lies often enough, people will believe them. Sadly, that could happen. One example: “The Washington Post made worldwide news and was lampooned at home for an online obituary which framed Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the brutal Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist organization, as an ‘austere religious scholar.’ “Reports had begun circulating late Saturday that a U.S. Special Forces raid in northern Syria had resulted in the death of al-Baghdadi. President Donald Trump confi rmed those reports in a Sunday morning announcement from the White House. The opening paragraphs of the obituary in WaPo listed al-Baghdadi’s “achievements.” It read: “When Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi took the reins of the Islamic State of Iraq in 2010, few had heard of the organization or its new leader, an austere religious scholar with wire-frame glasses and no known aptitude for fi ghting and killing.” That’s the kind of “journalism” President Trump is up against 24/7.

WaPo’s Sweet Obit on Terrorist Critiqued

Elizabeth Harrington, national spokesperson for the Republican National Committee, tweeted: ‘WaPo’s actual obit for a terrorist monster: ‘austere religious scholar w/ wire-frame glasses’ ‘Mr. Baghdadi maintained a canny pragmatism’ ‘Acquaintances would remember him as a shy, nearsighted youth who liked soccer but preferred to spend his free time at the local mosque.’” The remarks by WaPo about Al Baghdadi were kinder than anything they have written about President Trump and no doubt some people believe them. And they are a typical representation of the major media.

The fact that the Senate is controlled by Republicans and 67 votes there would be necessary to remove Trump from offi ce, if the House were to forward articles of impeachment, does not mean the president is immune.

It’s all political and the left is using the charade to attempt to destroy the president’s electability.
The left hates Trump but they also fear they can’t beat him.
Americans face a critical decision in 2020.
As Ben Franklin told the lady who asked him as he left the 1787 constitutional convention what kind of government had been provided:
“A republic, if you can keep it.”
The battle to retain the republic is on.
