VIEW From Behind The Plow
Is Mamdani Democrats’ future?
Is the success of Zohran Mamdani in seeking the mayorship of New York City as a Democratic Socialist indicative that the old Democrat Party is transforming into a new entity?
The actions of Democrat leaders in recent years might well indicate that is so.
All the Democrats yammering in recent years about attacks on “our democracy” are diminished by their actions in removing the people from consideration in actions to transform the federal government into a topdown operation.
Columnist Mark Lewis, a historian and teacher who has spent time in China, asserts that the Democratic Party believes in totalitarian government.
He says: “Most rank-and-file members of the party are truly ignorant of this matter, but it is the logical implications of what they believe.
He cites a quote from Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine to back up his belief that Democrats have discarded the idea that the constitution is the lodestone of American government.
Kaine’s declaration went like this: “The notion that rights don’t come from laws, and don’t come from the government, but come from the Creator... That’s what the Iranian government believes. So the statement that our rights do not come from our laws or our governments is extremely troubling.”
Lewis says comments like this resemble the ideology that has killed hundreds of millions of people worldwide in the past hundred years with the tyrannizing, oppression and enslavement of billions more.
The idea that rights come from government is an affront to the founders.
Thomas Jefferson, in the founding document of our nation, the “Declaration of Independence,” said, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that their Creator endows them with certain unalienable Rights….”
Maybe Senator Kaine has never read the Declaration of Independence or heard it like most grade school students in years past.
For a U.S. senator to say such a thing is dumbfounding. If our rights come from government as leftists of today allege, then government can take them away with the stroke of a pen.
Regarding Kaine’s attempts to equate our constitutionally- based government with Iran’s, Lewis responds this way: “Kaine then tried to compare the Declaration of Independence with Iran—rights that come from a Creator is what the Iranian government believes. No, it is not. I would argue most vociferously that Jesus and Christianity teach freedom of religion, something Islamic Sharia law does not teach. America is not a theocracy like Iran is. Iran is theoretically ruled by Sharia law. Allah (not Jehovah, they are two VERY different gods) gives the law. That is not what our founding fathers set up. Iranian Sharia law is diametrically opposed to Christianity. Jesus never forced anybody to believe in him. He always gave people a choice, and that’s what the American government does. To say that American rights are like Iranian rights is as false, as deceptive, as big a lie as it can possibly be, because Iran is a theocracy and Jesus NEVER taught that.”
Lewis concludes his civics lesson this way: “It is the Democratic Party, not Christians, who want to force Americans into obedience to a higher power. And to Democrats, that higher power is…government. Totalitarian government.”
Catholic Bishop Robert Barron in Virginia joined the discussion this way: “Basic to Jefferson was the fact that rights come first – they’re not invented by the government. Rather, government exists…to secure these rights.”
England succumbing to Europe’s Sickness
Europe has been succumbing to a world totalitarian system for many years now.
Even England with whom the U.S. has engaged in a “special relationship” for decades is falling for it.
Free speech is being destroyed there. A recent example came when an Irish comedian got off the plane in England for a performance and was arrested and jailed by British authorities for a Facebook comment he had made earlier that the British ruling class disliked.
BBC reported: “Graham Linehan arrested at Heathrow over his X posts.”
The first offensive post, (to English lords) from Linehan’s X feed, said: “If a trans-identified male is in a female- only space, he is committing a violent, abusive act. Make a scene, call the cops and if all else fails, punch him in the b…s.”
The BBC story continued this way: “His second post from X appeared to be an aerial shot of a group of protesters in a town centre, and he called it ‘a photo you can smell.’” “The third unacceptable view, was this: “I hate them,” referring to “misogynists and homophobes”, adding an expletive.
“Downing Street declined to comment on his arrest, but said Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Home Secretary Yvette Cooper had been ‘clear’ about their ‘priorities for crime and policing.’
“When asked about the arrest, Starmer’s official spokesman said: ‘That’s an operational matter for the police.
“‘But the prime minister and home secretary have been clear about where their priorities for crime and policing are, and that’s tackling anti-social behaviour (sic), shoplifting, street crime, as well as reducing serious violent crimes like knife crime and violence against women..’” So much for having an opinion – even in an attempt to be humorous.
“The Irish comedy writer said when he stepped off the aircraft, ‘five armed officers were waiting’ to tell him he was under arrest.
It appears anyone who has ever said or written anything anywhere the British government finds offensive should think twice before going to Merrye Olde England.
Ukrainian Refugee Murdered
A Ukrainian refugee in North Carolina was stabbed to death by a 14-times arrested and released criminal recently.
The mainstream media attempted to ignore the incident but conservative sources, including President Trump, picked up on it.
The victim, 23-year-old Iranya Zatutska, had recently come to the U.S. from Ukraine to escape the war with Russia, according to a GoFundMe started by her family.
A report I read said the victim had recently finished working at a fast food restaurant and had gotten on the train to go home when her murderer, Decarlos Brown, Jr., 34, stood up behind her and stabbed her three times.
Nationally- syndicated radio broadcaster Kevin McCullough wrote: “The woman had escaped Putin’s bombs only to meet her end at the hands of a repeat offender set free again and again under the banner of ‘restorative justice’ and ‘racial equity.’” The killer, who apparently had no motive for the murder, is black.
McCullough commented: “Empathy can become toxic. What begins as compassion for the ‘marginalized’ morphs into leniency for predators. Criminals are recast as victims, while real victims are erased. The very people crying ‘equity’ create disorder, chaos, and death.”
When criminals are jailed for their crimes they can’t kill innocent victims on the street or other public places like a “light rail line” in Charlotte, N.C.
Law and order is not a bad thing.
