VIEW: Texas Democrat reps: heroes or villains?

VIEW from behind the plow

Texas House of Representatives Democrats fled to Illinois last week to avoid a redistricting bill vote.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s office released a statement that “he will pursue a court ruling ensuring that their seats are declared vacant” if they do not return for legislative work by Friday. (Texas U.S. Sen. John Cornyn announced over the weekend that the FBI had granted his request to investigate and locate them.)

The action came ahead of the Texas House of Representatives’ consideration of a newly-redrawn congressional map that would favor Republicans. Democrats fled the state in order to break quorum, the number of representatives required to be present for debate to proceed.

The Texas Democrats apparently realized that all the Blue states had fully realigned to favor their party, thus any action in Red states to realign to increase the potential for Republican gains in the U.S. House of Representatives would threaten their plans to stymie President Trump’s efforts to save America.

The obvious goal is preventing President Trump from enacting the agenda voters elected him to do.

Texas state House Republicans’ redistricting plans could flip as many as five Democrat-held congressional seats, an effort Trump supports.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott indicated he is open to removing rogue lawmakers from office, commenting “for any member who fails to [arrive at the Capitol], I will invoke Texas Attorney General Opinion No. KP-0382 to remove the missing Democrats from membership in the Texas House.”

Abbott also said he thinks the members may be guilty of felony bribery crimes if they are accepting donations to pay the $500 daily fines that apply to intentionally breaking quorum.

Sen. John Cornyn sent a letter to FBI Director Kash Patel on Tuesday, Aug. 5, urging him to investigate possible “bribery or other public corruption offenses” committed by the lawmakers.

Warren Betting on Socialism

In the U.S . Senate, Leftwing Democrat Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts is placing a risky bet on socialism, according to Scott Hogenson, president of Hogenson Communications, a Dallas-Fort Worth public relations and crisis management practice.

Writing on the Townhall.com site, he said Warren gave her full throated support to New York City Socialist-Democrat mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani and in the process, put her Democrat colleagues in a box. They must now either support the socialist agenda of Mamdani or repudiate it.

Hogenson points out that until Aug. 4, when Warren publicly backed Mamdani’s campaign, congressional Democrats had the option of simply writing off his candidacy as a local election, a quirk of an electorate outside their own constituencies. Warren changed that dynamic by chirping “you bet” when asked whether her party should look like Mamdani, Hogenson believes.

The question now, for every Democrat on every ticket in every election between now and November 2026, is whether they think Elizabeth Warren is right; if their party should embrace the socialism Mamdani seeks for New York City. If they do, they betray the agenda many Democrats have quietly sought for many years and risk revulsion among voters, Hogenson said.

If not, they risk the rage of leftists who demand total ideological purity among their party’s candidates.

Warren apparently believes that enough Americans have now been brainwashed enough to believe the lies of Marxist-Socialist-Communist ideology.

Or possibly, America may be in the clutches of what Arnold J. Toynbee, 80-year-old Oxford-trained scholar, calls Americans’ disappointment that the U.S. has not created an “earthly paradise.”

He said the New World (that’s America) has failed to cut herself off completely from the Old World.

He cites tragedies that strike Americans, such as losing a son in a foreign war, as an example of that disappointment.

Could it be that the disappointment Americans felt in 2024 was that the leftist Deep State in Washington, D.C. working to turn America into a communist dystopia, complete with strict control over individuals’ lives, complete with empty store shelves and the millions of deaths resulting from Communist practices.

Those who have lived long enough to have observed the brutality of Communist regimes understand this. Some younger ones must not.

Americans elected President Trump to prevent a socialist takeover of America.

Whether the Representatives’ actions will be interpreted as good or bad will depend totally on the beliefs of the observers.

Kruschev’s Prediction Failed

The late Soviet leader Nikita Kruschev’s prediction that “we (Russia) will bury you” in 1959 didn’t come true. The U.S. observed the collapse of the old Soviet Union (without a shot being fired) Dec, 25, 1991. It seems unlikely that Americans are, or will be, disappointed in their nation as long as they the have the constitutional freedoms to live believing and speaking as they see fit, unregulated by an overly powerful central government, plus the opportunity to achieve by their own efforts, raise their children in the manner they deem best, own property, including homes and businesses and “with liberty and justice for all” as the Pledge of Allegiance states.

Things are improving in America with the election of an America First fighter, Trump, as president.
