Welcome to the cultural revolution
Daniel Mayfield, the minister of the Kingfisher Church of Christ, read an excerpt from an Eric Metaxas book he is reading, “Seven Men and the Secret to Their Greatness,” before he began his lesson on Sunday.
The book deals with the importance of fathers in homes, hence society at large (It was Fathers’ Day), something that Mayfield fears is being diminished in today’s culture.
He apparently was referring to the culture revolution now under way. It’s been going on for decades and is now approaching the time freedom haters have been waiting for.
Other goals of the movement include: erase America’s history, end debate and freedom of expression and basically transform America into a socialist dictatorship.
In earlier years when the initial steps were under way to end America’s constitutional government, many in the party seeking the transformation pooh-poohed the idea that any internal effort would destroy a free America.
“We have too many protections against that; America is too strong for that to happen,” was a dismissal we heard.
What would some of those well-intentioned, good Americans say today after watching some of the goings-on in Washington, D.C., and coastal environs recently.
Columnist David Harsanyl remarks “Welcome to America’s Cultural Revolution” in a recent essay.
He cites the intimidation, public shaming and economic ruin to those who don’t ascribe to the dictates permissible in the public square.
Words Are Violence?
He writes:
“Words are violence” has always been an illiberal notion meant to stifle speech and open discourse. Popularized by a generation of coddled and brittle college students, it now guides policy on editorial pages at newspapers such as the Philadelphia Inquirer, The New York Times and most major news outlets.”
While the national media has lost credibility with rank and file Americans, they remain a strategic leftist weapon to destroy America as the “land of the free.” Harsanyl adds later:
Harsanyl adds later:
“You may also have noticed another progressive slogan gaining popularity these days: ‘Silence is violence.’ It’s no longer enough not to peddle wrong-think in the op-ed pages of the local paper, but now you must also actively champion woke progressive positions or you, too, are tacitly engaged in violence and racism.
“This is a neat trick: To speak out in the wrong way is violence. Not to speak out is violence. Not to speak out in the way progressives dictate is violence. This is why your apolitical local lawn care company is sending out emails promising to dedicate themselves to Black Lives Matter. No one wants to be accused of harboring counterrevolutionary sympathies.”
He cites the take-over of the New York Times by reactionaries who became incensed because the editorial page editor allowed an op-ed piece on riot control by Sen. Tom Cotton to be published.
The editorial page editor responsible “resigned” (obviously pushed out for his heresy).
Movements End When They Begin Eating Their Own
Victor Davis Hanson, a national columnist and former university classics professor, says such cultural movements often die because they begin to eat their own. When they begin to threaten those who initiated the movements, the enthusiasm among the leadership wanes.
He reminds that Robespierre, an important figure of the French Revolution was eventually beheaded by his own guillotine.
The brighter side to today’s craziness is that the 60’s resulted in the election of Ronald Reagan, who returned the nation to sensibility – much to the chagrin of the Left.
Any reasonable person realizes that black lives matter.
However, Harsanyl points to the case of NFL Quarterback Drew Brees, along with his wife, who have been castigated for this “unwoke” comment:
“I will never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America or our country.”
Harsanyl added:
“Without an apology, we’re told, Brees would have been unable to work with teammates who are offended because there is no room for dissent on this issue. Brees promises to ‘listen.’ Brees implores all of America to ‘listen.’ ‘Listen’ is a euphemism for groupthink.”
Black Lives Matter is a group that is not only home to an inspirational sentiment and good people but also various hard left-wing groups and sentiments that some of us reject, Harsanyl added.
“It should not get a dispensation from the rules every other movement lives by. In a free and healthy nation, no issue should be above criticism or debate. We once called that liberalism.”
President Donald Trump is constantly under fire from the Left because he is fighting them tooth and nail.
If he is successful America can continue as a free country.
Political leaders must not be judged by whether they tweet things we might consider abrasive or coarse but how they vote and how they govern.
By the way, this recent leftist tantrum is primarily the latest effort to beat President Trump in November.
Crowds like those that attended the Trump rally in Tulsa last weekend indicate that it may not be working.
It should be remembered, however, that the left never quits.
