Young conservative leader slain speaking to college students, so who’s responsible for U.S. division?
The divisiveness of the nation’s leftist population is apparent as they commented on the assassination of Charlie Kirk, a 31-year-old conservative Wednesday while speaking to a college crowd in Utah.
Kirk, who founded Turning Point USA, an organization dedicated to young people and explaining the political position of conservatives, was shot and killed by a sniper on an adjoining building to the place where Kirk was speaking to a crowd of students at the Utah Valley University.
While answering a student’s question, a single shot struck him in the neck and he was proclaimed dead at an Orem, Utah, hospital.
The usual response from the left was to call for more gun control. (Until they disarm American patriots, their dream of taking total control of the U.S. are on thin ice.)
Democratic leaders, who had disdained the calls for prayers of two Minneapolis church school children a week earlier, suddenly were sending their “thoughts and prayers” to Kirk’s wife and two young children. I hope they are sincere.
The mainstream media immediately went to work trying to blame conservatives.
Matthew Dowd of MSNBC is reported to have said: “He’s (Kirk) been one of the most divisive, especially divisive younger figures, in this who has constantly sort of pushing this sort of hate speech or sort of aimed at certain groups,” and suggested Kirk might have been shot by one of his own supporters “in celebration.”
“You can’t stop with these sort of awful thoughts you have, and then saying these awful words, and then not expect awful actions to take place,” Dowd said, insinuating the shooting was Kirk’s fault.
Laura Hollis, a regular contributor to the Times and Free Press has some cogent points on Page 5 of this edition.
She described Kirk this way: “Charlie was just 31 years old. A devout Christian. A husband and father of two little children. We had mutual friends. A founder of Turning Point USA, Charlie made a name for himself traveling to college campuses, engaging with young people, debunking falsehoods and presenting evidence for the positions he took, challenging his audience to think.
“And for that, he was murdered. Killed in cold blood at an event where the shooter knew there would be phones and videos, so Charlie’s family, friends, loved ones, colleagues and followers could watch him die not just once but over and over and over again.”
Tyler O’Neil’s piece, also on Page 5, adds additional comments about Kirk from national figures.
The comments attributed to Virginia Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine (appearing on the right-hand side of this page) demonstrates clearly why the nation has become so violent and divided.
Kaine denies the basic principles of this nation. It’s eye-opening.
The actions of recent Democrat administrations in denying the nation’s founding documents, based on Christianity, were exemplified by Democrats, (supposedly church members themselves) accusing Christian Church members of being “domestic terrorists.”
I can’t help wondering which of the 10 Commandments they disagree with most.
The truth of the matter is that Kirk likely scared our leftist leaders because he was effective.
This illustrates the left’s hatred of free speech. The only thoughts they consider acceptable are ones advancing of their agenda.
Kirk’s shooting brings to mind the assassination attempt of President Trump in last year’s presidential campaign.
If the now president hadn’t turned his head at precisely the right moment he would have been dead. That people behind him were killed is evidence that the assassination attempt was not faked, as some on the left would have us believe.
I don’t recall any assassination attempts on Democrats by a conservative in my lifetime.
So, who’s attempting to divide the nation? This situation is so sad for the nation and for Kirk and his young family.
President Trump expressed his dismay this way: “Charlie inspired millions, and tonight, all who knew him and loved him are united in shock and horror,” Trump said. “Charlie was a patriot. He devoted his life to the cause of open debate and the country that he loved so much. He fought for liberty, democracy, justice and the American people.”
“It’s time for the radical Left and the media to take responsibility for demonizing Republicans like Kirk.”
