Kingfisher had one sizable disadvantage against Perkins-Tryon.

Just that...size.

The larger Lady Demons stymied the Kingfisher offense much of Thursday afternoon and eliminated the Lady Jackets 44-32 in their Class 4A area consolation quarterfinal at Enid High School.

KHS had just five points with 3:00 left in the first half and made just four field goals in the initial two quarters.

That led to a 16-point halftime deficit, one the Lady Jackets chipped into, but never overcame.

“Their size affected us, but the ball just didn’t go in the hole either,” said KHS head coach Gerrett Spears, whose team ends its season with a 14-9 mark.

“We were able to get some good looks, but didn’t finish them.”

The Lady Demons had two players reach double-digits in points by halftime while KHS had just one for the game.

Ella Rains had 11 of her 15 at the break and Bailey Kerns 10 of her 12.

Both had 11 rebounds each.

Kingfisher, meanwhile, only had one field goal until the latter moments of the second quarter when Peyton Walker and Ally Stephenson were able to score in the paint.

However, KHS never got its offensive momentum going until the fourth quarter.

Kingfisher outscored Perkins 12-5, but trailed by 19 entering the frame.

The Lady Jackets shot just 25 percent, which included a 1 of 18 showing from 3-point range.

Perkins was denying any second-chance points. KHS had only four offensive rebounds.

Overall, the Lady Demons out-rebounded KHS 46-22. Perkins’ 15 offensive boards helped lead to 15 second-chance points of its own.

Walker, a freshman, led the Lady Jackets with 10 points.

Britt Taylor, the team’s lone senior, scored nine.

Allison Green added six points.

“The girls played really hard the entire game,” Spears said. “It just wasn’t our day.”
