#1 Lady Raiders rule historic regional coaching matchup
Not much separates Kevin Lewallen and Rick Wilson when it comes to state championships won as a coach.
A lot separates their teams this year.
No. 1 Lomega proved far superior Tuesday night as it out-classed visiting Taloga 85-19 in a Class B-II regional semifinal.
The victory advanced the Lady Raiders to Saturday night’s regional championship at 6 p.m. in Dover against the Lady Longhorns (see related story).
Lewallen has won eight state titles, tied for most alltime among Oklahoma high school girls coaches with Bertha Frank Teague.
One notch below them is Wilson.
Their matchup made history as one with the most state championships won between two coaches.
But it wasn’t much of a contest.
Lomega led 19-4 after a quarter, then stepped on the gas in the second with a 31-3 run.
Reagan Snwoden did a bulk of the scoring in the first with 11 points.
Jackie Penaran picked it up in the second with 11 of her own.
The Lady Raiders only gave up two field goals in the first half and seven in the game.
Snowden had nine all by herself as she finished with a game-high 23.
She was joined in double figures by Penaran, who finished with 17, as well as Hadley Ott and Paige Wheeler.
The two seniors guards added 13 and 10 points, respectively, as Lomega improved to 25-1.
