With a state championship and the most talented team in school history come a plethora of individual awards and postseason honors.

That’s the case for the Kingfisher High School boys basketball team and coaches.

While a number of postseason honors have already been announced here, several more have rolled in the past few weeks, namely for seniors Jett Sternberger and Trey Green as well as head coach Jared Reese.

However, a number of other county basketball players have earned their share of honors as well.

Following is a list of the most recent announcements:

Oklahoma Basketball

Coaches Association

(OBCA)

Reese got the top honor for coaches as he was named the OBCA Coach of the Year.

In his sixth year at KHS, he guided the team to a 28-1 record and the Class 4A state championship. It was Kingfisher’s second title in three years.

The OBCA names a player of the year for each classification.

The honor in Class 4A was shared by Green and Sternberger.

Green averaged 16.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists a game while shooting 56 percent from the field. KHS was 84-5 in his three seasons here while he scored 1,970 career points.

Sternberger averaged 15.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.8 steals. He finished as the school’s all-time leader with 2,037 points and started in 103 career wins.

The OBCA also splits the state into regions for some of its honors.

Green and Sternberger were named co-players of the year for Region 1 while Reese was the coach of the year.

Their teammate, Bijan Cortes, was also on the all-district team, as was Hennessey’s Hugo Rodriguez and Angel Rodriguez, and Okarche’s Cristian Avila.

Coaches are also allowed to nominate people outside the program for the Friends of Basketball Award.

In Kingfisher, that went to Scott Watkins and Jeremy Rowan, Tony and Jayme Williams got it for Okarche, and in Cashion it was Jackie Robinson who was recognized.

The OBCA hosts its all-star games June 1 at East Central University in Ada.

Class B all-stars play against Class A all-stars, 2A goes up against 3A and then 4A, 5A and 6A all-stars are split into two teams for a game.

Hugo Rodriguez was selected to the 2A squad and Hennessey coach Brady Page will coach that team.

Faith 7 Bowl

This annual basketball game is played at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee.

It pits an all-star team from Oklahoma against one from Texas and will be played June 8.

Reese was selected to coach this year’s Oklahoma squad along with Jeff Tompkins of Hobart.

Sternberger and Green are both on the Oklahoma team along with Kellen Hines of Fort Cobb-Broxton, Kalib Boone and Keylan Boone of Tulsa Memorial, Antonio Gordon of Lawton Eisenhower, Shemar Smith of Norman North, Jacob Germany of Kingston, Julian Smith of Sapulpa and Micah Thomas of Putnam City North.

Players in the Faith 7 game don’t participate in OBCA’s all-star weekend.

Super 5

This is an annual list released by the writers of The Oklahoman in which they name their top-five players for the year regardless of classification or grade.

Sternberger was named to the first team and Green to the third team.

Reese was named the Super 5 Coach of the Year, an award that also encompasses the entire state.

The Oklahoman, on the same day, also names its own all-state by class.

Sternberger and Green were named to the 4A team while Cortes and Matthew Stone earned honorable mention.

In Class 2A, honorable mention went to Angel and Hugo Rodriguez as well as Cashion’s Jacob Woody and Alex Nabavi.

Avila was named to Class A’s team while teammates Kaleb Harris and Tucker Neuenschwander were honorable mention.

For the girls, Lomega’s Courtney Fox was named to the Class B team. Emma Duffy was honorable mention as was Crescent’s Elizabeth Battelo in 2A and Okarche’s Kassidy Rother in A.

Little All-City

Again, a strong Kingfisher flavor.

Sternberger was the Little All-City player of the year, an award that covers Class 4A and below in Oklahoma County and each county surrounding it.

Green joined him on the first team while Reese was the coach of the year.

Stone was named to the second team.

Honorable mention went to Cortes and Reece Lafferty of Kingfisher; Nabavi and Ethan Suntken of Cashion; Bryan Villalobos, Cooper Fuksa, Angel and Hugo Rodriguez of Hennessey; Avila, Harris, Neuenschwander and Lathen Stover of Okarche.

Girls honorable mention went to Battelo of Crescent and Rother of Okarche.

All-Northwest Oklahoma

These honors are voted on by coaches in the (you guessed it) northwest portion of the state and released by the Enid News & Eagle.

For the second time in three years, Sternberger was named the boys player of the year. Green won the honor last season.

Reese was the coach of the year.

Named to the All-Northwest team were Cortes and Green of Kingfisher and Hugo and Angel Rodriguez of Hennessey.

Honorable mention went to Nabavi, Woody, Stone, Carlos Soto of Dover and Brock Mowery of Lomega.

Lomega’s Fox was a member of the girls All-Northwest team.

Earning honorable mention were Kaitin Taylor of Cashion, Gracie Mills of Hennessey, Hanna Matthews and Katelyn Stolz of Kingfisher and Emma Duffy of Lomega.
