Blocked XP denies Hennessey

Hennessey got its first offensive touchdown of the season Friday in Hinton.

Two, in fact.

That, however, didn’t result in the Eagles’ first win.

Hinton blocked an extra-point attempt with 4:33 remaining to claim a 14-13 victory over the visiting Eagles.

Hennessey dropped to 0-2 with the loss.

The Eagles were defeated 13-7 at home the previous week against Crescent and their lone touchdown came on the defensive side of the ball.

The defense again did its part to keep Hennessey in the game against the Comets, but the hosts still managed touchdown runs by Seth Spady in the first and third quarters to stake a 14-0 lead.

The Eagles finally broke through early in the fourth when Kaden Hawk caught a 9-yard pass from Keigen Crites to get on the scoreboard.

Sebastion Gonzalez booted the extra-point to make it a seven-point game.

After the defense remained stingy, Hennessey one again scored, this time on a 3-yard run by Jay Jech.

The game-tying kick, however, never made it to the uprights.

Jech was 6 of 14 for 100 yards passing while Gonzalez also got time at QB. He went 2 for 6 for 88 yards.

Five different receivers caught passes, but Hawk proved to be the big-play threat.

He caught five tosses for 134 yards.

Crites carried the ball eight times for 45 yards.

He was also a monster on defense as he tallied 26 tackles, 21 of them solo.

Casyn Lott added nine tackles and Hawk eight.

Hennessey is off this week and returns to action Sept. 18 in a non-district home game against Crooked Oak.
