KHS sophomore shoots even par to capture SCPGA event

  • Burnham bags 1st golf title
    Tristun Burnham

Tristun Burnham can be found working on his golf game practically every day at Kingfisher Golf Course.

That work paid off last week with his first career win.

Burnham shot an evenpar 72 on July 16 to win the Lake Hefner Junior Tournament, which is part of the South Central PGA Junior Tour.

The Kingfisher High School sophomore won by two strokes over Edmond’s CJ Phillips.

Collin Bond and Mack Moore, both of Edmond, tied for third with matching 75s on Lake Hefner Golf Club’s north course.

The final six holes were the difference between first and second.

Phillips birdied holes 10 and 11 to pull back to even-par.

Burnham found himself briefly under-par when he birdied the par-5 11th hole, but gave a stroke back with a bogey on 12.

Burnham played his final six holes bogey-free while Phillips dropped strokes on 13 and 17.

The round consisted of three birdies and three bogeys for Burnham.

He had bogeys on the second and fourth holes, but answered each of them with birdies on the next.

After his birdie and the par-4 fifth, Burnham had fives straight pars.

Burnham has played in four South Central PGA Junior Tour events this summer and finished in the top-10 three times.

That included a fourthplace finish at Meadowlake on June 10 and a 10th place finish at John Conrad on June 26.
