The Oklahoma Coaches Association last week made official what Peyton Burns had already locked up on the course.

Burns’ name was on the list last week when the OCA announced the 2019 All-State golf teams.

The Kingfisher High School senior will play for the West when it takes on players from the East Monday, July 22, at Tulsa’s Cherokee Hills Golf Club as part of the annual OCA All-State games.

Tee time for boys golf is 8:30 a.m.

Burns had automatically earned his spot when he was the highest-placing senior from the West at the Class 3A state tournament.

He placed eighth overall with rounds of 77, 76 and 72 at Tulsa Country Club.

That capped a year when Burns carried a 74.4 stroke average, the best of his career.

It barely nudged the 74.5 he managed as a junior. He tied for ninth at 3A’s state tournament in 2018.

Burns averaged 80.1 strokes as a freshman and 76.1 during his sophomore campaign.

KHS qualified for state as a team all four years, finishing fourth in 2016, sixth in 2017 and fifth in 2018 and 2019.

Burns is Kingfisher’s 13th male golfer to earn All-State.
