Cashion claims 4 golds at Okeene

A quartet of Cashion High School athletes brought home gold medals from last week’s Whippet Relays track meet in Okeene.
Three of the medalists were in the girls meet, helping the Lady Wildcats to a third-place finish.
Kaitin Taylor won the 1,600 meter run, Madelyn McCabe the high jump and Tatum Robertson the discus in the annual event.
That boosted Cashion to 72 team points.
Watonga won the girls meet with 127 while Boise City was runner-up with
102.
Twenty-five teams were represented at the meet. Taylor’s time of 5:41.10 was nine seconds faster than Riley Coleman of Watonga. Meanwhile, McCabe and Robertson were locking up points in the field events. McCabe cleared 5-feet-4-inches in the high jump to garner the gold. She had to settle for silver in the long jump, however. Her best jump of 16-8 was one-half inch shorter than Zoee Weaver of Beaver. Robertson tossed the discus 108-11 to win that event by more than seven feet. She also earned bronze in the shot put with a throw of 33-4. On the boys side, Austin Vandruff outran the field in the 200 to win his gold medal. He crossed the finish line in 22.9 to edge Burns Flat’s Isaac Tubbs by .2. Cashion was seventh in the meet with 30 points. Thomas won it with 108, easily distancing itself from Mooreland and its 64 points. Hennessey managed 11 points for 18th place and Crescent six points for 24th.
