Both Cashion basketball teams rebounded from disappointing first-day defeats to win consolation championships at the Cashion County Line Tournament.

The Lady Wildcats defeated Alva 46-36 in Saturday’s fifth-place game while the CHS boys needed overtime to defeat Alva, 68-63, for their consolation crown.

LADY WILDCATS

After losing to Perry to open the tournament, the Lady Wildcats had no issues with Seeworth Academy on Friday in a 59-6 victory.

Cashion was up 22-0 after a quarter and coasted as every Lady Wildcat played and 12 of them scored.

Kaitin Taylor paced the team with nine points while Brooke Shelly scored eight.

Taylor scored 16 points in Cashion’s 10-point win against Alva on Saturday.

She made two 3-pointers to keep Cashion in it in the first quarter, then two more in the third when Cashion outscored Alva 10-3.

Tatum Robertson added 11 points as Cashion moved its season record to 12-6.

WILDCATS

Cashion’s boys had a considerably tougher time, but still emerged as consolation champs.

Jacob Woody scored 21 points and the Wildcats erased a fourth-quarter deficit to eventually emerge past Alva in overtime.

Alva led by four points entering the fourth, but Cashion outscored the Goldbugs 15-11 to force the extra frame.

Once there, Cashion edged Alva 8-3.

Alex Nabavi added 17 points and Ethan Suntken 10 as Cashion improved to 13-5.

The Wildcats got past Seeworth Academy 62-56 on Friday to put an end to a three-game losing streak.

Suntken sunk seven 3-pointers as part of his 27-point performance.

Nabavi chipped in 10 points and Woody nine.

Cashion needed a 21-12 run in the fourth quarter to emerge with the victory.

The Wildcats’ 67-60 loss to Oklahoma Christian School on Thursday was their third straight after having won nine in a row.

Class 2A’s top-ranked Dale throttled Elk City 70-36 to win the girls championship game. Perry out-dueled Dale 52-45 to claim the boys’ title.
