Cashion Wildcats vs. Crossings Christian Knights

COUNTY LINE

The first day of the Cash-ion County Line Tournament lived up to its billing.

Unfortunately for the Cashion boys, it meant their first loss of the season.

Crossings Christian School’s Carter Little scored underneath with four seconds left to give his team a two-point lead over the Wildcats.

After a timeout, Alex Nabavi’s 30-foot desperation heave was off the mark to preserve a 62-60 come-from-behind win over Cashion for the Knights.

The loss dropped the Wildcats (11-1) to the consolation bracket where they played Alva Friday afternoon (after press time).

Cashion, ranked seventh in Class 2A, led much of the way against Class 3A’s ninth-ranked Knights. The Wildcats were up nine at the half and still led by eight going into the fi nal quarter.

The Knights eventually tied the game and held for a final shot near the end. Little came through with the go-ahead bucket .

Reid Lovelace led the Knights with 21 points while Cooper Gudell and Daniel Koonce scored 12 each.

Cashion got 20 points from Jacob Woody. Nabavi and Vance Raney scored 10 apiece.

It was the second of two close boys games in the night session.

Clinton knocked off Class 2A No. 1 Dale 61-60 in a mild upset (6 seed over 3 seed). The Red Tornadoes are ranked 16th in Class 4A.

They trailed by six at halftime, but outscored the Pirates down the stretch.

Clinton played second-seeded Oklahoma Christian School in one semifinal while Crossings took on top-seeded Perry in the other.

Cashion girls win big

Rick Harris did not receive a kind “welcome back” from his former school.

The Cashion girls thumped Crossings Christian School 62-33 Thursday in the opening round of the Cashion County Line Tournament. Crossings is coached by Harris, the one-time Cash-ion boys coach. His team was dropped into the consolation bracket while Cashion advanced to the semifinal to take on Class 3A’s sixth-ranked Alva (after press time). Seven different Cashion players scored at least fi ve points. The team was led by Kai-tin Taylor and Brook Shelly, who scored 12 apiece. Lauren Lamb poured in 11 while Issy Reeves scored nine. Cashion moved to 10-2 with the victory. The other semifi nal Friday saw top-seeded Dale take on Clinton.
