Lady Jackets complete undefeated run through WAC contests

There was no milestone bucket, but it was a huge team win.

Kingfisher slowly, but surely, pulled away from Elk City last Friday for a 48-33 win on “Senior Night” at the APB.

It was the Lady Jackets’ 14th consecutive win as they finished their regular season with a 21-3 record.

To add to it, KHS finished 8-0 in the Western Athletic Conference and earned the conference championship for the first time.

Two KHS seniors were recognized before the games - Abbie Myers and Reese Roof.

The former was gunning for her 1,000th career point and found herself 13 points shy entering the night.

Myers got an early bucket, but that proved to be it as the milestone will have to wait at least another game.

But Roof came on, especially late.

She scored 5 points in the first half, but added 12 in the second to lead all scorers in the game.

Roof knocked down all 10 of her free throw attempts. That included going 8 for 8 in the second half.

The Lady Jackets were up 21-11 in the first half before the Elkettes cut their deficit in half.

The score got back to an eight-point margin by halftime and the Lady Jackets continued to add to it.

Mattie Slezickey’s 3-pointer late in the third made it 38-26.

It was 38-28 at the end of the third and Kingfisher held the Elkettes to one field goal and 5 points over the final 5 minutes.

Roof scored 8 points in the fourth, including going 4 of 4 at the line.

Slezickey joined her in double figures with 12 points.

Ela Hartman added 7. Elk City was led by Kazlyn Ulrich’s 11 points. The Elkettes, ranked 20th in Class 4A, fell to 14-8.

Kingfisher enters the 4A playoffs this weekend ranked No. 6 in the class.
