The list of postseason honors grew even longer last weekend for two Kingfisher High School juniors.

The Tulsa World newspaper announced its allstate basketball teams. It gives the honor to 15 boys and 15 girls regardless of age and classification.

Kingfisher’s Bijan Cortes and Matthew Stone garnered the honor on the boys’ side.

The two guided Kingfisher to a 26-1 record and a spot in the Class 4A state tournament, one that was never played due to COVID-19.

Cortes led KHS with 21.9 points, 5.8 assists and 2.6 steals a game. He was second behind Stone with 5.6 rebounds.

Stone also put up big numbers in multiple categories.

He averaged 17.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals.

Stone had already been voted to the Western Athletic Conference all-conference team and the OBCA Region 1 all-district team by coaches, Little All-City second team by the Oklahoman and All-Northwest Oklahoma first team by the Enid News & Eagle.

Cortes, meanwhile, was named the player of the year in the WAC, OBCA Region 1 and All-Northwest Oklahoma team. He was also named to the Little All-City first team and was named to the Super 5 team by the Oklahoman as well as being a Class 4A all-state player by the paper.

Stone and Cortes are both three-year starters for KHS. During that span, Kingfisher has been a 4A state champ, 4A state runner-up and boasted an 82-3 (.965) record.

Earning honorable mention by the World staff were Cashion’s Jacob Woody for the boys and Lomega’s Adysen Wilson for the girls.

The World also released its annual “Super 12” teams, which is the paper’s postseason rankings of teams regardless of classification.

Kingfisher was ranked fifth for the boys and was the highest-ranked 4A team.

Del City (5A) took the top spot, followed by Booker T. Washington (6A), Midwest City (6A) and Tulsa Memorial (5A). Heritage Hall (4A) was ranked just behind KHS.

The Jackets finished third in the 2019 rankings behind 6A champ Booker T. Washington (which beat KHS in the Tournament of Champions) and 5A champ Tulsa Memorial.
