Crescent girls remain in the 2A hunt

By

Dominant second and fourth quarters helped the Crescent girls keep their season going. The Lady Tigers defeated Mounds 54-40 on the Lady Eagles’ home court in a 2A Area I regional consolation quarterfinal. Crescent moved into Friday’s semifinal where it played Caney Valley (after press time) at Pioneer-Pleasant Vale in another elimination game. A win Friday would advance the Lady Tigers to Saturday’s regional consolation championship at Pioneer. Crescent outscored Mounds, a state semifinalist a year ago, 27-14 in the second and fourth quarters. After the two teams came out blazing in the first quarter - tied 18-18 - the offenses slowed down. However, while Mounds never scored in double digits again, Crescent closed the game on a 16-9 run. Elizabeth Battelo and Alaysia Wilson scored five apiece in the fourth quarter. Battelo and Katie Cronister led the team with 13 points apiece. Cronister made three first-half 3-pointers, where she scored 11 of her points. Wilson finished her night with 12 points. Crescent was 16-10 after the win. The Mounds boys put an end to Crescent’s season Thursday. The Eagles pulled away for a 61-33 victory in their regional consolation quarterfinal. Crescent’s season ends with an 8-18 mark.
