Dover girls 4th in Stampede

Dover managed a comeback win to open the Mustang Stampede, but eventually settled for fourth place in the tournament.

The Lady Longhorns downed Ringwood 38-36 in last Thursday’s quarterfinal round.

However, they lost 59-27 to Medford in the semifinals on Friday and 48-19 to Pioneer in the third place game.

After giving up a 14-3 run in the third quarter, Dover found itself going from leading Ringwood to facing a 29-23 deficit.

But six different Lady Longhorns scored in the fourth quarter as Dover closed on a 15-7 run and pick up its third win of the year.

Valeria Padilla scored six points in the quarter to lead the charge and finished the game with 10 points.

She was eventually named to the all-tournament team.

Dover also got 7 points from Bella Perdue and 6 from Leslie Soto in the win.

After the two subsequent losses, Dover ended the week with a 3-6 overall record.
