Dover season debut is a Goodwin
Freshman scores 22 points as Lady Longhorns race past Cimarron

Matt Peck expects this year’s Dover girls basketball team to struggle to score at times.
After all, he is replacing five starters and has a roster void of a single senior.
Still, even Peck was stunned when midway though the first quarter on Tuesday, his squad trailed visiting Cimarron 8-3.
“I was shocked we weren’t able to run up and down on them,” Peck said. “That had me worried.”
The worry was premature.
Leslie Soto’s three-point play at 3:38 of the quarter sparked an 11-0 Dover run that catapulted the Lady Longhorns to a dominant showing.
By the final buzzer, Dover had dominated the Lady Blazers 76-25.
Sparking Cimarron early was Bella Butler’s two 3-pointers. She also hit a trey to end Dover’s run later in the quarter.
However, the Cimarron sophomore didn’t make another bucket until the fourth quarter.
Dover eventually closed the first quarter on an 18-3 run.
Soto had six points in the quarter, but the breakout was from freshman Remi Goodwin.
She had three buckets and made all her free throws for 10 points in the quarter.
Dover extended its lead to 21 points by halftime, then outscored Cimarron 16-0 in the third.
Goodwin poured in eight points during that frame and nearly outscored Cimarron by herself.
In her Dover debut, Goodwin finished with 22 points.
Soto ended her night with 18, which included 14 in the first half.
Dulce Gonzalez added 12 points for the Lady Longhorns and Valeria Padilla chipped in 11 more.
Butler paced Cimarron with 12 points.
Eighteen of the Lady Blazers’ points came from the 3-point line.
