Dover squads get chance to play on Thunder home court

Dover got a taste of the big time when its comes to basketball last Friday.

It had nothing to do with its opponent, but the venue. Pioneer-Pleasant Vale handed the Lady Longhorns a 55-31 defeat.

The game wasn’t played in Pioneer or Dover, but at Chesapeake Energy Arena, the home of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

“It was a great experience for our team,” coach Byron Randle said. “They really enjoyed it.”

Perhaps nobody enjoyed it as much as Pioneer’s Kennedy Cassody, however.

She scored a game-high 28 points, including 12 in the first quarter to help her team get out to an 18-15 lead.

Dover cut its defi cit to 11 points by halftime, but couldn’t keep up in the second half.

Pioneer was able to close the game with a 17-3 run.

The Lady Longhorns were led by Meadow Caldwell’s 16 points.

Madi Moeller contributed six points.

Pioneer also got 15 points from Megan Albright. She scored 12 of those in the second half.

The loss dropped Dover to 2-8 on the season.

Pioneer knocked off Dover 70-46 in the boys game.
