Dover win streak comes to an end

After an 11-game win streak, the Dover baseball team has lost two of its last three.
The streak was snapped last Friday in the semifinals of the Mulhall-Orlando Tournament.
Class A’s eighth-ranked Union City avenged an earlier loss to the Longhorns with a 4-3 victory.
The Tigers went on to win the tournament with a 9-1 triumph over 2A’s eighth-ranked Oklahoma Christian Academy on Saturday.
Dover, ranked fifth in Class B, rebounded from the loss to down No. 12 Mulhall-Orlando 12-1 in Saturday’s third-place game.
Trypp Lack and Bryce Cockayne combined to hold M-O to six hits.
Lack got the win with five innings of work. He struck out seven and gave up one run.
Cockayne closed it out with two innings and struck out one batter.
Dover was up 5-0 before scoring seven runs in the top of the seventh inning.
That frame included a three-run double by Ivan Ruiz.
Leadoff batter Brok Cooper was 2 for 3 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored.
Ruiz was 2 for 5, drove in the three runs and scored twice.
Brennan Fletcher had 2 RBIs and two runs scored.
The Longhorns returned to the field Tuesday and were dealt a 9-2 loss at home by Class 2A’s 11thranked Amber-Pocasset.
The Panthers struck early with six runs over the first two innings.
Dover tried to claw back in the third and got some help from Am-Po, which committed errors on three consecutive plays.
The last of those, a grounder by Casen Buck, scored a run.
Fletcher followed with an RBI sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to four runs.
But Dover’s momentum stopped there and the visitors added three more runs in the seventh inning.
Cockayne was 2 for 4 and scored a run to lead Dover’s offense.
Dover was 12-4 after the loss.
