Elks, Boomers hand Lady Jackets district losses

Kennedy Stewart was excellent.
Kaleigh Mills just happend to be a little better.
A Kingfisher High School freshman, Stewart gave up just five hits and two runs over eight innings Thursday in a District 4A-3 game at Woodward.
Unfortunately for the Lady Jackets, Mills held them to just two hits in a 2-1 Woodward victory.
Holly Wilson’s single with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning brought home the winning run for the Boomers, who improved to 14-2 overall and 3-2 in the district.
KHS dropped to 19-6 and 3-4.
Stewart held Woodward scoreless until the fifth inning when the Boomers tied the game with a run.
KHS had taken the lead in the top of the fourth when Addison Johnson’s double brought home Kinlee East, who had reached on an error. That two-bagger was Kingfisher’s first hit of the game.
The Lady Jackets didn’t get another one until Kendall Farrar led off the sixth with a single.
Mills struck out six and walked one in her eight innings of work.
Stewart struck out five and didn’t surrender a walk.
Two days prior, Elk City completed a season sweep of Kingfisher in a district matchup.
Aubrie Pogue limited KHS to two hits and struck out 10 as the Elkettes earned a 10-0 win in six innings.
That improved them to 18-2 overall and 7-0 in the district.
The Lady Jackets were held without a hit until the fourth inning when East broke the drought with a single.
Adlee Friesen later got a base hit for KHS.
