END OF AN ERA
Okarche closes out historic gymnasium with district crowns
Okarche closed out the era in its current gymnasium Saturday night with a pair of district championships.
The teams’ trek to the state tournament will have to be done elsewhere.
In the final varsity games played in the structure that’s housed Okarche basketball since the 1940s, the Lady Warriors dominated Kremlin-Hillsdale 74-19 and the Warriors followed it up with an 84-52 thumping of Ringwood in Class A district title games.
“That was a good team,” said Okarche boys coach Ray West. “I thought we played really well.”
Indeed, Ringwood came in with a 19-5 record and on a four-game win streak.
However, the Red Devils couldn’t keep up with Okarche’s pace or handle the Warriors’ pressure.
Okarche forced 21 turnovers and built up a 35-23 halftime lead.
