Lomega’s defense wasn’t doing enough to subdue Mulhall-Orlando.

So Kevin Lewallen’s Lady Raiders advanced in the 2019 Class B playoffs with their explosive offense.

Behind a combined 54 points from Courtney Fox and Megan Dunigan, second-ranked Lomega outscored the Lady Panthers 90-73 Thursday in their regional semifinal.

The win, Lomega’s 11th straight, put the Lady Raiders into Saturday night’s regional championship. They’ll play Timberlake at 6:30 p.m. at Pioneer-Pleasant Vale High School.

It was Mulhall-Orlando putting on the offensive display early as the visitors jumped out to a 24-17 lead after a quarter.

“They’re a pretty good team,” said Lewallen of 20th-ranked M-O. “And they made everything they shot in the first quarter.”

Dunigan made two 3-pointers to spark a second quarter that saw Lomega outscore M-O 20-15, but still trail by two points.

The third quarter, though, was the turning point.

The Lady Raiders exploded for 32 points to lead by 14.

Fox made four 3-pointers in the quarter and Dunigan scored nine.

The Lady Raiders then buried M-O with another flurry of points early in the fourth before Lewallen sat down his starters.

“They (M-O) scored a lot of points on us late,” Lewallen said. “It really wasn’t as close as the final.”

Fox finished with 29 points, 20 in the second half. She had five total 3-pointers.

Dunigan scored 16 of her 25 in the second half. She made four treys of her own.

To help its cause, Lomega made frequent trips to the foul line. The Lady Raiders made 12 of 14 in the second half and 23 of 34 overall.

Emma Duffy, who made all five of her charity shots, finished with 14 points despite turning an ankle in practice Wednesday.

Freshman Hensley Eaton provided another 10 points.

Saturday’s matchup will be Lomega’s third with Timberlake. The Lady Raiders won 49-41 in the Cherokee Strip Conference Tournament semifinals and then 57-46 at home on Feb. 1.

The regional champ will advance to Friday’s area championship in Woodward. The loser drops to the consolation bracket and will play Thursday.
