It was Elk season at Lomega homecoming
For the first time since its season opener, Lomega played a team that won’t be considered among the favorites to win a state championship in its respective class.
The result was the Raiders putting an end to a three-game losing streak last Friday night.
Behind 22 points from the homecoming king, Lomega downed Burlington 67-41.
Prior to the night’s games, seniors Lance Yost and Jenny Penaran were crowned the homecoming king and queen.
After a slow start, Yost sparked Lomega’s second- half surge to pull away from the Elks.
The Raiders trailed by two after a quarter and were up 25-22 at the half. Yost had just one field goal and four points in those 16 minutes.
But he heated up to the tune of three 3-pointers in the third quarter as Lomega extended its lead to 15.
He poured another trey and nine points in the fourth.
Jaxson Snowden finished the night with 16 points. He scored eight in each half.
The Raiders also got one 3-pointer in each of the four quarters from Traevon Smith-Dunn for his 12 points while Cameron Ramer scored 11.
Kyden Archuleta paced Burlington with 16 points, but was the only Elk in double figures.
Lomega’s three previous games were against defending Class A state champ Okarche, defending Class B champ Calumet and Dover, which reached the state semifinals a year ago.
The win puts the Raiders at 2-3 on the season.
Lady Raiders cruise past Burlington girls
Burlington provided little resistance in Lomega’s quest to remain unbeaten.
The Lady Raiders followed up a homecoming coronation with a convincing 72-28 victory last Friday over the visiting Elks.
Jenny Penaran was crowned the homecoming queen prior to the game and scored five points as part of the Lady Raiders’ fast start.
The home team jumped on Burlington 26-6 in the first quarter.
Joining Penaran in the early push were fellow seniors Hadley Ott and Paige Wheeler.
Ott knocked down four 3-pointers in the frame while Wheeler made one as part of her seven points.
Sophomore Reagan Snowden picked up the scoring in the second and third quarters as Lomega steadily built on its lead.
Snowden led all scorers with 20. She had all but one in the middle two frames.
Ott finished her night with 13 while Wheeler scored 10.
Ten different Lomega players scored as the team improved to 5-0.
