For much of three quarters, it appeared as if the Kingfisher girls basketball team would cruise to its third straight win.

While the fourth quarter proved to have a few speed bumps, the Lady Jackets did, in fact, hold on for a 44-42 win over Cache in their return to action last Friday at the APB.

KHS moved to 4-2 on the season as it enters the post-Christmas break portion of the schedule.

After giving up a 7-0 run in the first two minutes of the game, Kingfisher essentially controlled the next three quarters.

The Lady Jackets’ defense stymied Cache, limiting the Lady Bulldogs to 35 percent shooting and just 24 points through three quarters.

After falling behind 7-2, KHS didn’t give up a point for more than nine minutes and went on a 10-0 run.

Jenni Beebe warmed up in the second quarter to score nine points as KHS pushed its lead to 20-12.

It grew to 14 points in the third quarter behind six points in the paint by Rayland Garner and a pair of treys by Allison Green.

But, up 11 after three quarters and still leading 37-27 with 4:22 to play, Kingfisher started to let it slip away.

KHS had six turnovers in the fourth quarter and went just 5 of 11 from the foul line.

Meanwhile, Cache finally started to heat back up for the first time since the game’s initial minutes.

Kayla Niedo had two three-point plays and scored nine points in the quarter. Kloe Heidebrecht nailed a 3-pointer to help close the gap and then Kyla Bonnarans banked one in with 12.7 seconds left to pull her team within 43-42.

That came seconds after Beebe missed the front end of a one-and-one.

Beebe was again fouled with 6.8 seconds remaining and her team leading by one.

She missed the fi rst attempt, but made the second one for a two-point lead.

Cache’s last-ditch attempt to tie it was denied.

Beebe scored 15 to pace Kingfisher with 15 points, four rebounds and three steals.

Ally Stephenson scored eight points, as did Garner.

Cache got 13 points from Bonnarens and 11 each from Niedo and Heidebrecht.
