KGA scramble to benefit Meals on Wheels, Jacket Pantry
Eighteen holes of golf can help feed an untold number of Kingfisher County’s most vulnerable citizens.
That’s the purpose of the Kingfisher Golf Association’s annual Benefit Golf Tournament.
This year’s tournament - the 10th to be held at Kingfisher Golf Course - is Saturday, May 3.
Shotgun start for the four-person scramble is 9 a.m. and the cost to enter is $200 per team.
As always, 100 percent of the money raised for the tournament will go to benefit local groups and charities.
This year’s beneficia-ries are Kingfisher County Meals on Wheels - which feeds the county’s elderly and homebound residents - and the Jacket Pantry - which helps feed the students of Kingfisher Public Schools.
“Both of these programs are so important to our community and we just wanted to find a way to do our part to help them out,” said Gary Wilson, the golf course’s club pro and manager who has organized the event each year.
Last year the tournament benefitted Meals on Wheels and the Kingfisher Community Collaborative.
The KGA presented checks of $3,000 to each and the Kingfisher Women’s Golf Association donated another $1,000 to each.
That brings the total to more than $75,000 donated to local groups in the last nine years.
“There’s a lot of important work going on to help feed our children and our elderly,” Wilson said. “We’re honored to help out…and the fact we play a round of golf in doing so makes it a win for everyone.”
