Chisholm was already a heavy underdog with 4A’s No. 1 Kingfisher coming to town.

The Longhorns’ longshot hopes were further diminished Tuesday when five players - including three starters - had to miss the game due to contact tracing.

Although the ones left to battle the Jackets put up a good early fight, they were promptly disposed of, 79-39, by KHS at Outhier Fieldhouse.

Chisholm kept pace with Kingfisher early before the Jackets went on a 6-0 run to close the first quarter then outscored the Longhorns 31-12 in the second.

The 48-22 halftime lead meant no minutes in the second half for the Kingfisher starters as earlier in the day they learned they’d be playing this weekend in the Edmond Open (see related

In the limited minutes, Bijan Cortes scored 20 points to go with his three assists and three steals.

Chase Davis came off the bench to score 11 points while Mason Snider scored nine.

Although Matthew Stone got in early foul trouble and saw his minutes diminish even further, he tallied eight assists to go along with four points.

Eleven Kingfisher players scored overall as the team shot 59.3 percent (32 of 54) and forced 28 turnovers.

Lady Jackets beat zone with 13 3-pointers

Kingfisher had the ultimate zone buster working Chisholm.

The Lady Jackets nailed 13 3-pointers en route to a dominant 61-29 victory over the Lady Longhorns on their own home court.

Coach Gerrett Spears said prior to the game that Chisholm’s size and its customary zone defense had him concerned.

“They can cause you a lot of problems with it,” he said.

Problem solved.

KHS got six 3-pointers in the first half and only heated up after that.

Two of the early treys came from Britt Taylor as Kingfisher opened a 14-6 advantage in the first quarter.

Taylor hit another one in the second quarter as the lead grew to 16 points.

The second half - namely the third quarter - was Allison Green’s time to heat up.

The junior knocked down three more 3-pointers and Kingfisher’s lead continued to grow.

Green made five from long range overall and scored 15 points.

Ally Stephenson added 11 points and Taylor nine in a game that saw 11 Lady Jackets score.

Kingfisher was 13 of 29 overall from 3-point range while Chisholm made just 3 of 18 (16.7 percent).
