Kingfisher will open the 56th annual Tournament of Champions against a fellow Class 4A state title contender.

The brackets for the invitational-only tournament hosted by Tulsa Public Schools were released on Thursday.

KHS will play Tulsa Webster at 8:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28, in the tournament’s opening round at the BOK Center in Tulsa.

Kingfisher is currently ranked No. 1 in Class 4A while Webster is ranked No. 3.

Both teams qualified for last year’s Class 4A state tournament before it was canceled due to COVID-19.

The two teams are on the same side of the bracket at Class 6A’s seventh-ranked Putnam City

North and Class A’s defending state champ Garber, which is currently ranked No. 2.

Other boys teams in the field include Tulsa Memorial, Jenks, Beggs and Minco.

The tournament also features a girls bracket which, like the boys, will be played out over three days. Kingfisher last competed in the TOC in the 2018-19 season.

The Jackets defeated eventual 3A state champ Kingston in the opening round before falling to 6A’s Booker T Washington in the semifinals.

Booker T went on to win the tournament over Tulsa Memorial and the Hornets also won the Class 6A state title that season.

KHS defeated eventual 6A state tournament team Putnam City West in the third-place game.

The loss in the semifinals was the Jackets’ only one of the season as they eventually won the 4A state title for the second time in three years.
