A true team effort saw Kingfisher’s girls bring home the team title from last Friday’s Watonga Invitational track and field meet.

On top of medaling in all four relays, there were nine different Lady Jackets who earned medals in individual events.

That saw KHS score 132.5 points to win the meet that featured 14 different high school girls teams that scored at least one point.

Weatherford was the runner-up with 118 points while Tonkawa was third with 114.5.

KHS had a 7.5-point lead over Weatherford entering the final three events: the 200 meter dash, the mile run and the mile relay.

Taitym Walker and Addison Price helped put the meet almost out of reach in the first two of those events.

Walker placed third in the 200 and Price did the same in the mile run to give Kingfisher a combined 12 points.

Weatherford managed just one point in those events, giving the Lady Jackets a 120.5-102 advantage, meaning the Lady Eagles would need a sizable win over Kingfisher in the mile relay to claim the team title.

Weatherford did beat KHS, but not by nearly enough.

The Lady Eagles were second and KHS third as Kingfisher wrapped up the team championship.

Abbie Myers, Mattie Slezickey, Reese Roof and Scout Snodgrass ran the 1,600 relay for Kingfisher in 4:13.54, a fraction of a second behind Weatherford. Tonkawa won the event in 4:10.02.

KHS was second in the 800 relay (behind Cashion) and in the 3,200 relay (behind Elk City).

The two-mile relay team consisted of Price, Slezickey, Snodgrass and Harper Evans.

The 800 relay team was Walker, Adlee Friesen, Roof and Snodgrass.

Rylee Long-Bush joined those first three in the bronze medal 400 relay team.

But Kingfisher also shined in the individual events.

Talor Mecklenburg won the team’s lone gold as she was first in the 100 meter hurdles. The senior ran the race in 16.77 seconds.

She was also fourth in the 300 hurdles, an event that saw Myers place second in 48.84 and Roof third in 49.85 seconds.

Snodgrass was the 400 runner-up as she ran the lap in 59.57.

Ela Hartman also won silver with hers coming in the high jump after clearing 5 feet.

Evans, Friesen, Walker and Price all garnered bronze medals for the Lady Jackets.

Evans was third in the 3,200 meter run with a time of 12:31.10.

Friesen got her medal in the 100 as she crossed the line in 13.69.

Walker ran her 200 in 28.60 and Price the mile in 5:53.15.

Walker and Hartman also picked up points in the long jump.

Hartman was fourth with a leap of 16-2 while Walker took sixth with a jump of 15-0.

Also grabbing points for KHS were Slezickey, sixth in the 400, and Long-Bush, who was fifth in the pole vault and tied for fifth in the high jump.

Cashion girls 5th

Cashion was fifth with 50 team points.

The 800 relay team took first in the 800 relay with a time of 1:48.45.

Khloe Kastner was big individually.

The freshman won the 200 and was second in the long jump.

Cashion also saw freshman Kate Nabavi earn silver in the open 800.

Dover, Hennessey athletes score points

Dover was 11th with 16 points, one spot ahead of Hennessey and its 12 points.

The Lady Eagles’ Emma Copeland took fourth in the two-mile run, one spot ahead of teammate Jocelyn Matousek.

Matousek also placed fourth in the mile run while McKenna Cheney was fifth in the 100 hurdles.

Junior Kylee Bell secured Dover’s points.

She was the pole vault runner-up after clearing 10 feet.

Bell was also third in the high jump (4-10) and fifth in the 300 hurdles.

Boys Results

Cashion was the top-scoring boys team as the Wildcats were seventh with 22 points.

Hank Brown medaled in three different events to score those points.

The sophomore was runner- up in both the 200 (23.71) and 400 (52.84) and also was third in the 100 (11.79).

Hennessey scored 19 points as it grabbed points in the 800, mile and two-mile relays.

Individually, the Eagles’ Seth Sims was fourth in the 3,200 (11:14.29) and fifth in the 1,600 (5:10.35).

The Eagles also had two score points in the 100 as Mario Lopez took fourth (11.81) and Jessin Hardin sixth (11.92).
