A repeat wasn’t in the books for Kingfisher’s softball team, but that didn’t make the Lady Jackets’ showing in the Highway 33 Classic an unsuccessful one.

Chisholm defeated KHS 3-0 Saturday to claim the tournament championship. It was the third straight year the teams have met for the title.

The Lady Longhorns won it in 2017 while KHS returned the favor a year ago.

“We had a chance in the finals, but just couldn’t get it done,” head coach Danny Green said.

“But we were still pretty excited for our girls.”

KHS out-hit Chisholm 5-4 in the game, but couldn’t get the timely hit.

The closest it got was in the first inning when Olivia Wilcox singled with Mia Farrell on second, but Farrell was thrown out trying to score.

KHS didn’t see a runner reach second base the remainder of the game.

Farrell and Macy Mc-Cully had two hits apiece for KHS.

The defeat meant another hard-luck loss for Wilcox in the circle.

She struck out four batters while surrendering just one earned run.

KHS got to the finals by knocking off the OKC Broncos 7-5 earlier in the day.

The Lady Jackets led 7-1 after Mya Dewberry’s RBI single in the third inning.

KHS posted three runs in the first, including a two-run single by Natalie Dick, who added an RBI hit in the second inning as well.

Wilcox drove in a run with her double in the first and walked with the bases loaded in the second.

The Broncos were able to get four runs back in the bottom of the third, but Wilcox retired them in order in the fourth to end the game.

The right-hander was nearly unhittable in Friday’s 3-0 victory against Ft. Cobb-Broxton to wrap up pool play.

Wilcox gave up just one hit and struck out nine Lady Mustangs.

The pitcher’s duel was broken up in the third when Katey Brickman brought home Emma Lukasek with a single. Lukasek preceded Brickman’s hit with a double of her own.

Wilcox walked in the fourth and eventually scored when McCully reached on an error. Mc-Cully later scored on a wild pitch for the three-run lead.

Two Lady Mustangs reached base in the first inning, but only two more did so the rest of the game against Wilcox.

After giving up a two-out single in the second inning, Wilcox retired 12 straight batters before an error with two outs in the sixth ended that run.

Kingfisher’s overall record after the tournament was 9-5.
