KHS soccer gets home sweep of McLoud
Kingfisher was all but eliminated from playoff contention Tuesday when it lost 6-4 at home to Astec Charter.
The Jackets took some of that frustration out on McLoud on Thursday.
In what was supposed to be a road game, the Jackets beat the Redskins by the 10-0 mercy rule and needed just one half of action to do it.
A waterline issue in McLoud forced the game to be moved to Kingfisher and the Jackets responded with eight different players scoring at least one goal.
Zander Padilla and Jake Sisk had two apiece.
Also getting in on the scoring action were Santiago Ortega, Alex Montiel, Alejandro Alvarez, Fernando Jaramilo, Eduardo De La Torre and Jairo Velarde.
Although he didn’t score a goal, senior Hayden Green did assist on four of them.
Against Astec, the Jackets found themselves in a back-and-forth affair.
The visitors went up 4-3 with 17:37 to play, but Kingfisher quickly struck back and tied it on Julian Marshall’s goal less than 30 seconds later.
However, Astec scored again with 9:31 to play for a one-goal lead, then sealed it with another score with 1:42 left.
De La Torre, Ortega and Sisk also scored for Kingfi sher in the match.
The Jackets are now 6-6 overall and 2-4 in District 3A-2 contests.
They will host Corn Bible Academy on Tuesday and wrap up their season at Alva on Friday.
KHS Girls Win 2
The Lady Jackets are in firm position to land a home playoff game.
That came on the strength of a pair of shutout wins at home last week.
KHS blanked Astec Charter 9-0 on Tuesday and then McLoud 5-0 on a windy Thursday.
The Lady Jackets now have one regular season game remaining at Alva on Friday.
They’ll enter that contest with a 7-4 overall mark that includes a 5-1 record in District 3A-2 games.
If Kingfisher finishes at least second in the district, it will host the first round of the Class 3A playoffs.
Yesenia Rivera recorded a hat trick against McLoud.
Two of those goals came in the first half when Kingfi sher built a 4-0 lead with a gusty wind at its back.
Ariana Rivera scored the other two goals in the half, then Yesenia Rivera grabbed her third goal in the second half.
Liliana Garramone had three saves, including one on a penalty kick.
Molly Weber got her hat trick in Tuesday’s win as she netted three goals.
Rivera chipped in two more as KHS dominated from the start.
Ariana Rivera scored twice and also had an assist.
Also adding goals were Harper Evans, Yesenia Rivera, Karen Muñoz and Jennings Broddle.
