While some local youth spent their fall and winter donning football helmets, basketball shoes or wrestling singlets, Harlyn Albers took a different approach. The Gilmour Elementary first grader laced up skates and armed herself with stick as a member of the Bruins in the 6U league of the Oklahoma City Youth Hockey Association. With Harlyn helping lead the way, the Bruins went undefeated during their regular season and capped it with a championship last month against the Golden Knights. Several family members and friends were on hand to witness the victory. Harlyn, who has been playing since October 2017, scored three goals during the season. The 6-year-old will turn 7 in July and will play next fall in the 8U league. She is the daughter of Amber Huckins Albers and Fred Albers. She is the granddaughter of Patricia and Wayne Caughell of Kingfisher, Fred and Jane Albers of El Reno and Sheila and Mike Eaton of Kingfisher. Harlene Huckins of Kingfisher is her great-grandmother.
